API Usage for Private App

Hello,

I am looking to build an app for private usage, to check if weather conditions are favorable for a flight (Cessna/Ultralight) for my pilot friend. I stumbled upon the Windy API for this and thought it has some very useful parameters.

I saw that the testing version provides 500 requests per day but with randomly shuffled and slightly modified data. The 500 requests per day is absolutely fine for my use case, but what is meant with randomly shuffled? Is the data from the testing API completely useless for any real-world application?

Paying a $1000 for the data is unfortunately not feasible in our case. Is there no in between model for hobby/non-commercial applications?

Just started an art project, fetched the first camera image - but on subsequent fetches it was the same image. Are they delayed normally, different on a paid plan? Wasn't sure what the listed limitations meant.

Becasue we see the term [image: 1764842129780-2f3e2b25-77a2-4904-9071-57967587595f-image.png] that's why we are not quite sure that we could keep to weather info for our purpose like I mentioned earlier and One more scenario is, Let's say we have 500 farmer users in the same sub-district and if we don't keep the weather data, then we have to call your API 500 times instead of just 1 call. So what if I would like to register as Professional level but I would like to have more than 10,000 rate limit, what could I do on this? Webcams - attribution

Hello, I am building a website for managing hiking trails and I am trying to add more functionalities. I'd like to have the information about the available webcams near a specific trail, and a link to the webcam in question.

I'd like to retrieve all the webcam informations using the API, and then direct the users to the public URL of the webcam on the windy website, no embedding nor anything.

Is this allowed? Do I need to mention anywhere where the data come from?

GFS API Returning Inconsistent Forecasts for Identical Requests

I'm experiencing a consistency issue with your Point Forecast API where identical requests seconds apart return drastically different results.

Issue:
Making 3 identical API calls within 6 seconds to the same location returns temperature differences of up to 9°C and pressure differences of 22 hPa.

Example (Nov 7, 2025 ~07:40 AM PST):

Location: 50.038417, -116.892033 (Kaslo, BC)
Model: GFS
Request 1: 2.0°C, 1028.5 hPa
Request 2: -6.6°C, 1014.4 hPa (6 seconds later)
Request 3: 2.3°C, 1036.0 hPa (6 seconds later)

Temperature variance: 8.9°C between identical requests

This makes the API unreliable for applications requiring consistent forecast data.

Questions:

Is this a known issue with load-balanced cache servers?
Can I request a specific model initialization time for consistency?
Would ECMWF model be more stable?

I've implemented retry logic with variance detection, but would prefer the API to return consistent data natively.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Endpoint: POST https://api.windy.com/api/point-forecast/v2
Parameters: ["wind", "windGust", "temp", "rh", "pressure", "precip"]
Model: gfs
Occurs consistently across different times/days

@dmignac Hello, no, radar layer is not available in Windy API. This layer contains many various datasets from different providers and not all of them agree with sharing their data.

Map API CORS Issue

Hello,

We have experienced yesterday evening and today morning an issue consisting of our map API requests getting blocked by CORS, and returning this error in the browser console (origin url redacted):

Access to XMLHttpRequest at 'https://api.windy.com/api/map-forecast/v2/refresh' from origin 'http://---.com' has been blocked by CORS policy: Response to preflight request doesn't pass access control check: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.

We checked both the API Key and the domain restrictions for any error on our side, and they're OK

The issue seems to be fixed now, but we would like a confirmation if it was indeed an issue on the API side.
