Windy Community Forum is a free space for you and other weather enthusiasts to discuss topics about Windy.com platform and other weather related subjects. In order to keep our community safe and a welcoming place for everyone, we need you to follow a few simple rules.

Be proactive

If you are unsure about one or more things and want to ask a question, do a quick check to see if it’s been asked before by using the search option in the top right area. If it has been asked and you find the answer, you can continue in that particular thread in case you need to. If it hasn't, create a new topic with your question. Following the guidelines above will keep our forum organised and tidy.

Be relevant

Keep your comments and discussions relevant to the Windy Community forum and related subject. Differentiate between each category and choose the correct one that fits your subject. For instance, suggestions and feedbacks should be posted into Your Feedbacks and Suggestions or its related subcategory, the same goes for General Discussion.

Community Rules

Spam

Disruptive and misleading content that is shared once or repeatedly on the community is prohibited, that includes:

• Clickbait-type advertisements or advertisement of any kind
• Posts that include links to other websites with unrelated content
• Content with no added value or clear message
• Repetitive content with purpose to drive users off Windy forum
• Nonsense or repetitive posts and low-quality links

Scam

Scam content has no place on our forum, that includes:

• Posting scamming links
• Impersonating other users or companies

Accounts that post this kind of content will be automatically banned from the forum.

Creating multiple posts about the same topic

Users are advised to keep discussion in one topic, either in an already existing one or newly created. Repeatedly posting the same question or opinion is not allowed and can possibly result into a temporary ban.

Profanity

To keep Windy forum civil and safe for our users, swearing and using slurs is not allowed in any form.

This feature enables you to Compare all of the available Forecast Models to each other during the next few days.

This feature works with all of the Models that Windy uses (location dependant): ECMWF, GFS, NEMS, ICON-EU, AROME, NAM and enables the user to Compare the Forecast across all of the available Models to try and understand what pattern has the highest likelihood of occuring (eg: 3 models forecast Rain, 1 model doesn't)

To use this feature:

• Open Windy to the desired location, eg: Prague, CZH
  https://www.windy.com/50.067/14.466?rain,48.716,14.817,7,m:e2Bagzh
• Click on the Map at your chosen location to show the Forecast
  (or just open directly from Windy Favourites or Browser URL)
• I also selected the Rain Layer for this example, but it's not essential
• Select Compare at bottom centre
• All available Models will now be displayed enabling them to be easily Compared by choosing a period in the Timeline and viewing the weather conditions from each Model in a vertical orientation

This feature enables you to compare what the "Weather Station Observed" with what the various "Forecast Models Predicted" during the last few days.

This feature works with all of the Models that Windy uses (location dependant): ECMWF, GFS, NEMS, ICON-EU, AROME, NAM and enables the user to check how often the Forecast Models 'got it right'.

To use this feature:

• Open Windy to the desired location, eg:
  https://www.windy.com/-Outdoor-map-map?map,29.237,-62.540,5
• Select Reported Wind at bottom right to display all Weather Stations
  (I also used the Outdoor Map Layer for clarity, but it's not essential)
• Select the Weather Station, eg: I chose Bermuda Airport
• Select the Forecast Model, at bottom left
• Select the desired period in the Timeline
• The grey floating box displays the Observation vs Forecast
  (and some basic colour coding to indicate Right / Ok / Wrong)

How to change the layer?

1. Go to Windy.com and click on Settings
2. Scroll down and click on Start-up layer and location
3. Open the dropdown menu and choose a desired layer

You can choose from Weather radar, Satellite, Wind, Temperature, Rain, Thunder, Clouds and Waves.

Windy gives its readers a unique opportunity to see the described phenomena on an animated map and thus visualize right away the path of the hurricane, the endangered area, the direction of the wind, the forecasted storms...etc.

The weather related article is accompanied by an animated map displaying the affected area on the background of the temperature layer.

What topics can you find/write on Windy?

There are two types of articles; articles that expire and articles that are permanent. Articles that expire should inform users about forecasted or ongoing weather phenomena. Permanent articles should:

• Educate users about weather, forecasting and such
• Inform users about new features on Windy
• Explain the high level functionality of Windy
• Inform users about new climatological studies, models, and data sets
• Provide reviews of forecast models and weather products, as well as reviews of weather-related hardware (like weather stations)

The most important announcements and weather warnings are displayed directly on the homepage.

You are more than welcome to write your own article and enhance the community of our authors. Just write anything which follows these How to become an author instructions and let us know when it is ready. Then we will publish your article on Windy.com! Pretty exciting, isn't it?

Where to find it on Windy

• Desktop version: Just click with the right mouse button anywhere on the map and use the link in the context menu.
• Mobile devices: A long tap on the display will do!
