GPS boat position
-
Hello, When will it be possible to have the real time GPS boat position available on Windy. That will be very helpfull !!
-
@Damien971 Hi, it is an interesting thought, Windy is still evolving, so we may do it in the future.
-
Hi, i'm a member of charal sailing team and i Join Damien's question, i think most of the offshore racing skippers (especially for the next Vendée Globe) would be very interested to see their boat current position on the map. today windy is mostly used to prepare the races but not so much during racing, if it is an interest for you that windy become a tool used onboard, it would be interesting to work on containing the amount a data downloaded as we used satellitar internet supplier and to be able to place the boat realtime on the map.
cheers
Nicolas

wow it is awsom!!~

@nandrieu
Hi Nicolas,
You probably have a satellite broadband internet reception on board. Do you get already Windy at sea?
If yes it would be useful for you to have at same time your GPS position.
Otherwise it would require a new format of Windy for satellite receptions at narrower bandwidth.Nice video

Go Team Charal!
(yes, there are some sailors here too... ;) )
-
Are you going to add real-time GPS position option?
-
@igor-320 It is possible that we will add it in the future.
-
@korina I would put it in the top 3 of your overall priorities 🙂 It's a must-have option not only for sailors, but low-altitude VFR piltos as well
-
Do you have any updates about adding real-time GPS position? You know, every flyer and every boater would like to have a poor-mans weather radar as backup. So, even if a weather radar data is delayed and generally not very accurate it's still better than nothing.
-
@igor-320 Hi, we are currently working on features with higher priority. We will consider GPS position in the future.
-
@korina Dear Korina, do you have any updates for location service implementation? 🙂
-
@igor-320 Hello, currently there are no updates. If there is an intention to develop this feature, we will inform you.
-
@korina still looking forward for real-time GPS position. This feature is really needed for low-altitude pilots, especially for those who fly unsophisticated airplanes like ultralights with very basic equipment. Boaters will appreciate it too :)

Hi! I am a captain of a merchant cargo vessel and sailing almost in the middle of pacific ocean, however when i click "find my location" it always shows my position at some Mexico city and i have to type manually my position to get forecast. I think this real-time GPS issue should be implemented soon!
Thanks! -
@janthesailor
Hi Captain
Have you set your location using GPS ?And have you enabled your device to provide your GPS position to Windy?
It works for me but of course it depends on the device.
By the way how do you get Windy at sea? I guess you have a broadband connection by satellite. Could you tell us more about your equipment and devices. -
@idefix37
Hi There and thank you very much for your response!
Yes all GPS settings as you described, however mostly need to enter manually.
That's correct we have broadband satellite connection for business and crew internet. Despite the fact we receive detailed report from professional companies i like to have it for myself to use it with premium benefits for more frequent data.
I use it with my mobile or on our desktop. Even use while not sailing at all.! -
@janthesailor
Thank you for detailed reply.
Fair winds and good sailing. -
your insight on this topic is very demanding 🙂

bumping the thread! :)
This feature is very much needed for everyone
