MacOs Catalina - Windy.com won't load
-
@gregfrancis_98 If you are able to load Windy at least somehow, can you please try to turn "Graphic compatibility mode" in settings on https://www.windy.com/settings ? Does it help or the issue is still same?
-
@marekd This is after reloading:
-
@marekd I just completed an entire MacOS reinstall. Still getting the same error.
-
@apub Thank you for your help. And network tab is also without errors? There will be many items, but non of them should be in red color.
-
@marekd Don't know how to read this. These are the only red I see:
-
@apub Thank you. It loads everything client needs and without any JS error... So it has to be some rendering issue. We are working on getting 2012 MacBook and we hope it will not work even for us to be able to fix it.
-
@apub @GiantSquid @GiantSquid Could please anyone with this issue try to open dev console on Windy page (Cmd + Opt + I, then tab "Console") and paste this line and press Enter?
W.store.set('disableWebGL', true); window.location.reload();
It will reload page on its own. And if this helped, it should work as expected. Thank you!

@marekd Getting a Console error..

My FF crashes completely when opening windy.com. Safari just shows the error that people reported earlier in this thread. I have the same problem with Google StreetView. There are numerous reports on the Internet of people having the same problem with the following setup:
- MacBook Pro retina 2012
- macOS Catalina 10.15.7
- latest updates
- Firefox 95.0 (latest) / Safari (latest)
The issue seems to be related to WebGL as some tinkering with Safari WebGL settings seems to have fixed it for some people:
In the Safari Menu Bar, go to Develop >> Experimental Features >> then check both WebGL 2.0 and WebGL via Metal.
If Develop is not in the Safari Menu bar, go to Safari >> Preferences >> Advanced >> and tick "Show Develop menu in menu bar" down the bottom.Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any solution for the Firefox.
Here is Mac Cash Info form firefox crash report:{ "num_records": 2, "records": [ { "message": "abort() called", "module": "/usr/lib/system/libsystem_c.dylib" }, { "module": "/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GPUSupport.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGPUSupportMercury.dylib", "signature_string": "Graphics kernel error: 0xfffffffb\n" } ] }

@kkoston Thanks for your investigation. I just can confirm it is an Apple bug. Could you please try in Firefox (and even for Safari) to set this item in localStorage for Windy website? Just (fail)load windy.com, open Console in dev tools and fire:
window.localStorage.setItem('settings_disableWebGL', true);
After reloading the website, it should disable WebGL rendering for all layers (except of satellite, meteoradar and 3D globe). We just need to know it it helps or not. Thank you!

@marekd I just noticed this post. I enabled "Graphic compatibility mode". With that, Safari and Firefox are successfully loading on my MacBook.
-
I have the same problem with Windy.com but also with google street view.

Quick update: I have installed the latest security updates from apple (2021-008) and it fixed the problem. Now windy and other apps load normally on my mac. Here is what they said in the change log:
Graphics Drivers
Available for: macOS Catalina
Impact: A malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges
Description: A buffer overflow was addressed with improved bounds checking.
CVE-2021-30977: Jack Dates of RET2 Systems, Inc.
