Remember that global models have a resolution between 9km and 22km ! So it’s impossible to display such a picture by weather models. What they show here is like a video game at very high resolution. For the weather forecast, maybe in 20 or 30 years....

I agree that the 3D Globe view should be added back into the menu. I teach air and water circulation to 6th grade students and the 3D model on Windy.com has been my go to for the big picture of how the winds circulate around the globe. Being able to show the winds at the different latitudes in a beautiful, captivating model will be missed.

They only technical explanation is apparently the 'little demand for it' and 'not enough capacity to develop it further'?
The 3D mode was indeed the most interesting and unique tool Windytv offered for those who tried to look at things a bit further.

This web app who has inspired Windy at beginning has a very rough UI compared to that friendly of Windy. It has not really evolved since it was shown to me in 2015 while sailing in the Scilly.
Now it includes the probability of polar aurora, and for those interested by this subject, the tropospheric and stratospheric polar vortex can be shown.
To learn more about the content of this app click on « Earth », then on « About ». This app is based on GFS data.

@palmacad @ayhaninal @Aztec2012 Thank you for your interest. As was mentioned before, we have limited capacity and therefore the development of 3D had to go aside. However it may change in the future. :)

If you've gone into 3D mode the button to go back to 2D is in a weird place - under the zoom buttons in the top right. Why the 3D mode on the settings menu isn't a toggle, I don't know.

windy make a visualization of free available data (besides ecmwf) , mostly forecast data, so if you deliver a free source for such data they can think about it.

@Bruno-Serra 3D option is not supported on iPad. You can access it using the desktop version.

On my Computer it doesn't show the letters and the numbers "2D".
