How to add your webcam to Windy
-
How long does it take to add a camera? At least the approximate time.
Every time I add a new camera, I get an email with no content. Why?
-
Hi @Sevno, could you please send us more information on - webcams@windy.com, preferably with the no content email you received as well? We will have a look at it.
Once you submit your webcam form, it goes into assessment, and it may take 1 - 2 working days. -
@office-b Hello, the form is clearly stated in the article - https://webcams-admin.windy.com/webcams/add

i'm a bit disappointed. I saw a link, suggesting we can now add WebCams to Windy. So I spent quite a bit of time tracking down a good WebCam for a small town near me, and filled out the form. When I got to the final part, there was a checkbox to confirm I'm the owner of the WebCams. well I'm not, because it's a publicly available image. So I wasted a bunch of time and couldn't add anything.
It would help if you said right up front that you can only add WebCams that you operate yourself.

Hello everyone,
I would like to add my webcam to windy.com and found this manual. However the manual is quite basic and does not mention the details that I need to successfully setup my webcam for Windy.com.
Therefore I was wondering if there is a more detailed manual somewhere?
For example, the current basic manual says: “Windy servers need permanent access to the latest snapshot (not video) of your webcam using image URL address”.
Does this mean that my webcam has to store a snapshot to a website/url every hour, to begin with? In that case this is probably a whole manual by itself…..
Thanks & best regards!

@chuijser Hi, there is no other manual for this. Basically, when your webcam is accessible online, you can share it then with Windy.
-
@Suty thanks. I can make my webcam broadcast live on a URL (website). Do I understand you correctly and will that indeed be sufficient for having it on windy.com?
At the top of this topic I read “ Windy servers need permanent access to the latest snapshot (not video) of your webcam using image URL address”.
I read this as: my webcam should not broadcast a video continuously on my URL, but I should have a system that makes a snapshot once every hour, publish that snapshot on my URL, and have that snapshot updated every hour. I have no clue how to take care of that…
Thanks in advance!

@chuijser Hi, sorry for this misunderstanding. Video formats are normally supported and the last image is handled on our end.

@Suty Hi! Can I provide an rtsp url directly from my hikvision system? or do I need to pass through a service like IPcamlive?
Is IPcamlive free service compatible with windy? -
@ThePailot
Hi, yes, you can provide your webcam using an RTSP feed URL like rtsp://....
