Can Maps be saved on PC and uploaded to Android later?

Does anybody know if this can happen. I downloaded a map to my phone, copied it to my PC, deleted it from my phone then uploaded it to my phone again but it wasn't available. I'd like to save memory on my phone until I need the map.
