Weather warnings show Thunderstorms but none of the agencies have forecasted thunderstorms
-
@Korina
I think it has to do with the symbol used.
Although the warning is about "winter storm" ,
developers (by taking into account the word "storm")
use the symbol of thunderstorm instead of the symbol for snow.
-
@Korina
with further investigation ...
in location (A) there is a Storm Warning (about WIND storm)
but the symbol is for THUNDERstorm.
-
....
just north, in location (B), the symbol is OK
@kekert
It seems that the "storm watch" is connected with wind symbol
and "storm warning" with thunderstorm symbol. -
@Gkikas-LGPZ Well investigated my friend :)
-
well-investigated - thank u.
The Symbol is Thunderstorm. In addition, the color is also of Thunderstorm?
-
Hi @blahdi @Gkikas-LGPZ @jmh2002, we currently do not distinguish whether it is Snow storm or Rain based storm, therefore you might see the symbol Thunderstorm for conditions like heavy snow as well.
-
@Korina -thanks for responding. but, i don't understand. I am no weather expert, but is thunderstorm always linked with either snow or rain based storm? --
-
@blahdi I mean if it is a rain based storm, it always means thunderstorms?
-
@blahdi It is determined by extreme weather conditions, such as combination of Gale/Heavy snow/Wind. Therefore here you will see Thunder symbol, instead of just Snow symbol.
-
I understood - I guess we are showing thunder symbol and color in windy in these conditions due to graphic limitations, rather than due to a meteorological standard. Hence, it will be confusing to a layman (not weather expert) like me. Anyways, something to explore improving in future (no rush). .thank u.
