      • Update: Icelandic Met Office has updated its warnings: Red alert is in effect for Reykjavik - Capital Region, South Iceland, Faxafloi - Southwest Iceland and Southeast Iceland; Orange alert is in effect for Reykjavik - Capital Region, South Iceland, Faxafloi - Southwest Iceland, Breidafjordur - Westnorthwest Iceland, Westfjords, Northwest Iceland, Northeast Iceland, East Iceland, Eastfjords, Southeast Iceland and Central highlands - Uninhabited part of Iceland; Yellow alert is in effect for Reykjavik - Capital Region, South Iceland, Faxafloi - Southwest Iceland, East Iceland and Southeast Iceland

Forecasts indicate that an exceptionally deep low will approach Icealand from the southwest (pressure at the low center is forecast down to 930 hPa). Easterly strong gales, storm force wind or violent storm is expected, strongest wind in the south part of Iceland early on Friday.

Widespread snow or sleet with the heaviest precipitation forecast in the south and east parts. Becoming warmer with rain in lowland areas in the south part and at the east coast late afternoon with temperature 1 to 5 deg. C., but still frost in the north.

Much lighter wind in all of Iceland in the evening. The weather is likely to cause extensive transport disturbances and travelling is not advised while the weather warning is in effect. Damage to structures due to wind is possible, especially in the south part.

People are advised to exercise caution to prevent accidents and fasten loose objects. High sea levels are expected due to storm surge.
