      Hi, community
If I use the Windy widget (iframe tag) in a commercial application, do I need to pay for a license/subscription?
      Thanks!

A priori no, as far as you clearly display the source of the widget (as said in the original announcement)

        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nice! I will put a footer with the source of the widget for sure.
          Thank you very much!
          Have a nice day

@Matheus-Sereno @vsinceac Hello, when it comes to a commercial app, iframe is not permitted, so you can't put Windy as a widget.

When saving a widget via Windy UI, nothing is said abut such a permission... Is there any?

@vsinceac Hi, yes, but this is embed and it is meant for placing on a website, blog etc. @Matheus-Sereno is mentioning application, which is forbidden.

I guess he meant "web application", which is simply a web site...

Afaik, such an embedded URL can be only forbidden by Windy.com web application itself (technically it is possible but obviously it is not the case here), or well via license (is there any?)

                    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Matheus-Sereno Hi, we would need more information regarding the usage of the iframe.

sorry again, Submit shooted itself and for some reason I cannot edit no more a previous item.
Thus, that URL can be embedded in an iframe of any WEB APPLCATION with internet access.
Where is such a restriction for such a commercial app (if any?)

@Korina OK, many thanks; I never read it yet... (I don't have any juridic skills :o)))
It is still not clear if widgets can be used in commercial applications; all I found is (I think) in sections:

                              • 9.6.3: "Embeddable widgets are intended for media use and are available at windy.com/widgets and via the webcam detail and Share button. The Windy logo must be present and clickable (leading to the Windy Website), and they are not allowed to be used by weather apps."
                              • 5.2.3: You promise and agree that you are using the Services and Content for your own personal use and that you will not redistribute (does not apply to the use of the Windy embeddable widget)

Does it mean that embedding such an widget, retrieved via "https://www.windy.com/widgets", as an iFrame in any web application would require your explicit approval? Or did I missed something (possible...)?

                              ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Korina To be honest, I thought that using Windy widgets would be somehow similar to MeteoBlue widgets; the latest are explicitly free to use on any kind of web application.

                                ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@vsinceac Hi, yes, exactly, widgets are intended to be used by media only. iFrame use of Windy.com is forbidden.
If the user above, wants to use Windy in a commercial app, he would need our API - https://api4.windy.com/.
However only apps with added value can use Windy API, so weather apps are excluded.

OK, thanks, I understand now, many thanks.

In current implementation, there's no reason why a developer couldn't add any URL obtained via Windy Widget UI (which doesn't explicitly display any prohibition), in any IFrame on any web application.
To avoid such a stuff, I guess Windy would be forced to continuously track calls to such an URL, which should be boring at the end...

                                    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
