      When I look at the Satellite layer on a desktop computer in the web browser, it shows me colors ranging from a light-brown/tan color to bright white. At the bottom right it shows a color legend that runs the full rainbow spectrum but it's labelled in temperature (I can click to change between C, F, K).

      What does the different colors for visible satellite mean? Cloud height?

        @japanjeff
        Yes exactly, cloud height.
        With the Visible pictures the brownish clouds are the lower clouds and the blueish the highest ones.
        With the Infrared pictures (INFRA+) the colors scale gives the brightness temperature of cloud tops, which is related to their altitude.
