Sahara Air Layer
-
Is it possible to also incorporate the Sahara Air Layer information ?
-
@Microbill
On Windy you have already one of the main information about Sahara Air Layer (SAL) which is provided by the Dust mass layer:
https://www.windy.com/-Dust-mass-dustsm?dustsm,20.797,-36.914,3,i:pressure
You may look at the Aerosol layer too and at Satellite visible pictures.
Dust is one of the main characteristics and tracers of this air mass:

@idefix37
I never used this map so far.
What type of info can you get from this Windy map ? How do you interpretate it ? Who are the typical users of this map ? -
@Yves70
Take a look at

@Yves70
This map is important for people living in the vicinity of the Sahara, such as in the Maghreb, Spain, southern Italy, Greece, etc..., for health problems and for haze / reduced visibility that the high content of mineral particles may bring. It is also in a way the tracer of this hot, dry air that we see moving at certain times of the year towards America, reducing the risk of cyclonic development in the Atlantic. However, I do not know what additional information @Microbill want to obtain from the position and establishment of the Sahara Air Layer.
