Currently located at 22.5N 116.5W, Hurricane Elida moves toward the west-northwest near 24 km/h (13 knots). This motion is expected with a decrease in forward speed through Wednesday and a turn toward the northwest on Wednesday night and Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 14 km/h (59 knots) with higher gusts. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 110 km. Rapid weakening is expected as Elida will move over colder water.

For the next day or two, swells generated by Elida are expected to affect portions of the coast of west-central Mexico and the southern Baja California peninsula.

Located at 20.1N 112.1W, Elida has strengthened to become a hurricane. Elida is moving toward the west-northwest near 22 km/h (12 knots) and this motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected through Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 140 km/h (75,5 knots). Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 km from the center.

Swells are expected to affect portions of the coast of west-central Mexico and the southern Baja California peninsula during the next day or two. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Pacific hurricane season 2020 has its fifth named cyclone – Elida. Currently located near 18.3N 108.8W, Elida is moving toward the west-northwest near 24 km/h (19 knots) and this motion is expected to continue through Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 100 km/h (54 knots) with higher gusts. Elida is expected to strengthen and become a hurricane later today and then start weakening on Tuesday.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect. Swells generated by Elida are expected to affect portions of the coast of west-central Mexico and the southern Baja California peninsula.
