As a means of supporting Windy, I thought that I would take out a subscription (the additional hourly forecast might also come in useful).

However, when I went to pay for it in Paypal, I got the following message on the PP screen:

By clicking Agree and Pay I confirm that I want to use XXXXXXXX for my current and future purchases with Fastspring BV. I authorise Fastspring BV to charge my PayPal account for such purchases and I instruct PayPal to pay such amounts. I understand this lets me check out faster by not having to log in to PayPal to complete my purchaseBy clicking Agree and Pay I confirm that I want to use XXXXXXXX for my current and future purchases with Fastspring BV. It would not let me make the payment unless I agreed to this. I cancelled the transaction.

Why can't I make a payment in the usual way?

@Robni Dear user, this is a standard process for subscription offers. What you can do is to purchase Premium and then cancel the subscription for the next billing period, therefore you will not be charged automatically next month/year if you wish so.

@Korina Does this mean that I can cancel the subscription for the next billing period straight away (and still retain the benefits for the rest of the year), or do I have to wait until near the next billing date to do this? There doesn't seem to be anywhere that the Windy subscription operation is specifically mentioned. All the details that Fastspring list in their Terms and conditions etc. seem to be generic for a multitude of things. I would have expected Fastspring or Windy to provide this information somewhere (unless I missed it).

@Robni Hi, exactly, you can cancel right away and prevent automatic charge for the next period. You can manage your orders via FastSpring platform or if you wish, I can cancel the automatic renewal for you.

@Korina Thanks. I've now taken out the year subscription and cancelled the automatic renewal.

On principle I won't subscribe to anything where there is no easy control over the renewal process. In the past, there was a genealogy site where the subscription could only be cancelled by phoning the company a week before renewal. Comments from people who had done this found that it was almost impossible to cancel by just saying "I want to cancel" to the person at the other end!

@Robni Thank you for supporting us!

I understand your point, some companies try to take advantage of this.
