Freezing Altitude Layer: height vs altitude
-
I noticed that the ECMWF freezing altitude layer seems to be height (above ground level) instead of altitude contrary of what is written in the details and layer name. The ICON model seems correct.

@PepperJo
You are right the Freezing level would be called Freezing Height but not Freezing Altitude because this level is above ground (agl) but not above sea level (amsl). See previous discussion here:
https://community.windy.com/topic/7633/please-add-freezing-level-in-elevation-above-sea-level?_=1599559010148Then I am not sure that Windy shows the Freezing altitude from ICON correctly:

Thanks for the link to the other thread. Regarding ICON: at least when I look at the current freezing "altitude" there are no significantly different levels e.g. above the alps which are clearly visible with ECMWF that lead to my conclusion that ICON is indeed reporting altitude.

@PepperJo
You may be right. I’ll check ICON freezing level later in winter over the Alps. The second link I’ve given above shows that the level was above ground in this example over Greece. But this was in January 2019. It has may be changed since this date.
