Windy shows an 8’@15sec west swell that is supposedly derived from the wave watch 3 model. showing up mid day today 9/30/2020. No where else (including many apps/sites that purportedly pull from the ww3 data) show this particular, substantial swell. It seems like the anomaly lies within Windy. Any thoughts/ ideas as to why this is showing up here and nowhere else?

Right now I see 4 ft 12s. Could post a screen shot from a WW3 map from another app/website.

            @waatchy_wheedle
            And where is the problem??
You get 8ft 15s both on the arrow and in the Meteogram.
If you don’t show another source of WW3 model for same area, same hour, what can we conclude?

seems like it differs significantly from your screen shot. Which wave model was that from?

                  It was WW3

You mean that you have not observed the 8’ ? Or not shown by other WW3 source?

@idefix37 Here is a screenshot from the buoy last Wed, also using ww3 data. Shows what was forecastedcdip wed.jpg as well as observations.

OK, I have looked at this site on Oct 03 15Z (UTC) at buoy position. The wave significant height is said to be 4ft:

                      8D740C98-F028-48B8-B706-3ABA621A50D5.jpeg

At same time with 3h forecast step and same location Windy shows 4ft with WW3 model:

                      93DC7B6F-6718-4AD9-811E-3646B9AF2400.jpeg

With 1h forecast step, the swell height is quite different and should be 7ft:

                      F3C300E5-B45A-4882-8DDD-FCE8B1064E0F.jpeg

btw your first screenshot was using 1h step.

So apparently this is where there is something WRONG with the 1h step wave and swell height
With 3h forecast step, between 15Z and 18Z the height varies from 4ft to 6 ft.
With 1h forecast step, between 15Z and 18Z the height varies from 7ft to 6ft.

@Korina Pls could you review this issue with developers. I have used the app on iPad. This issue is also observed on website but only with WW3, not with WAM. It probably needs further investigation.

Here is another example even more obvious, at same location and same time. Settings are only wave models and 3h/1h forecast.

With WAM there is no change with 3h or 1h.

                        A405581F-7149-4206-B4E1-7826DEEBD5DA.jpeg

With WW3 the wave/ swell height is different with 3h or 1h.

                        914CC35B-92FF-4E62-834E-646805BE4FAB.jpeg

So it seems there is a bug with WW3 (Wavewatch3) when shown with 1h forecast step. Easy to check it by just toggling from 3h to 1h and back.

Thank you for pointing out this issue AND for providing full details. A lot of user here, when they report an issue, they don’t say where, when, compared with what...
Until dev team look into this, you better use WW3 with 3h forecast step.
