Yes, I was aware of this move and this is aboslutely great news ! -
That sounds really great. Does that mean that only the charts will be for free or also the underlying data? Checking out the page I could only find the free charts. We are a small provider of price forecasts in the power industry and we could not afford to pay for the data since they are quite expensive. Therefore, we are currently only using GFS data. Getting the data for free would really help us competing with the bigger players.

The new open data policy concerns only maps, diagrams, and also meteogram and sounding for a location. It does not include data itself via GRIB files. -
I hope that this major step forward initiated by ECMWF will push other institutes and groups, like Meteo France, to be engaged in the same type of move to share much more data for free, via maps and charts. Of course, GRIB files are another story,...
