I recently discovered and promptly fell in love with "Distance and Planning" for boating. It would be awesome to see the tides and/or currents along the trip too.

@emarrero said in Add tides to "Distance and Planning":

....to see the tides and/or currents along the trip too.

Tides are only useful at starting and arrival harbours, or very close to the coast.
Adding currents would need to include tidal currents. But this data is not available on Windy.

Hi @idefix37 Thank you for your reply and sorry I didn't see it earlier. Tides would be useful for me because on the South shore of Long Island I often boat on the inland waterways where everything is shallow and knowing where the tide will be at each waypoint would be fantastic.

Hi, you like using "Distance and Planning" for boating. That’s fine. This feature is also called here Route planner.
Tidal currents have been recently added to Windy. So as you asked in your first post we could imagine adding them to the Route planner. It depends on dev team decision.
But concerning the tide itself, that seems more difficult because the water level is not available along the trip on Windy. I guess you use electronic nautical charts for your route plotting. Some e-nautical charts include tides calculation and so they give you the water depth under your keel.
I think that Tidal currents could be added to Route planner, but tides are better to be considered on nautical charts specially in shallow inshore waters, this way is essential for a safe navigation.

To get Distance & planning, click your RH mouse button on windy.com or long press on screen in the app.
Note this feature does not include the Route planner tool in the mobile app.
