Convert data from API request

When doing API request using the v4 API, we do get data back.
For wind, i requested and there are :

• wind_u-surface array
• wind_v-surface array

These correspond to the ts array (with timestamps) in the return data.
Maybe i miss it but how can i convert the data in the wind_u/v-surface arrays to "wind" objects (direction / speed)?

I'm calling this from a service so no browser/map is present.
Is there a package i must include? Or should i write the conversion method myself, if so is there any pointer in how to?
