UK Satelllite update and 5 min UK Radar
-
Hi,
the UK Satelllite is still not updating correctly and the last picture is at least 15 minutes old or older.
I believe this is a known problem but wondering when it will be fixed.
Secondly when are we going to get 5 min update on the radar which seems to be a standard now on most weather sites,
many thanks,
Alan -
@alanduckers Hello, both Satellite and Radar over UK have very frequent updates, less than 5 minutes.
-
@korina Many thanks for your reply but the last UK satellite picture is at least 15 minutes old at 1630.
Up to that time point it was updating very fast which it used to do to the current time.
I have seen a previous post were this problem was reported and you replied you knew it was a issue and were working on it ?
As for the radar the pictures have always been at least 15 mins old across the UK in my experiance so unsure why you are saying it has frequent updates, less than 5 minutes ???
Thanks again for the reply,
Alan -
@alanduckers Hello, could you please enclose a screenshot? My satellite view is always less than 5 minutes old. Thank you.
-
@korina Hi,
its difficult to get a screen shot as it only as you run the animation you can see it stops updating at least 15+ mins before the current time. Before it used to animate right up to the current time if you see what i mean.
As a example at the the current time 0948 the last update is at 0933 18 minutes ago.
Hope this helps,
Alan -
@alanduckers This is actually not issue, the slider updates itself so it ends at the end of the timeline.
-
@korina But that is the issue the slider is NOT updating to the end of the timeline.
At the last point on the timeline the image is at least 15 minutes old and that is the problem. It used to be virtually up to date
i.e. two or 3 minutes old -
@alanduckers As I mentioned, this is intended behaviour, images are up to date, but the slider visually ends before the end of the timeline.
-
@korina Ok not sure about that as the image does not change for at least 15 mins before the end of the timeline if you take the slider backwards. Before this problem the image would change within two or 3 minutes as you moved the slider backwards from the end of the timeline.
Not sure why you do not see that to be honest but thank you for your time.
I will not mention the 5 minute radar update as I think we will have the same problem :-) -
@alanduckers If you go at the end of the timeline, you will see that images are not older than 5 minutes. The fact that the slider does not go at the end of timeline is only UI matter.
-
@korina So if your telling me the last image is only 5 minutes old from the current time that is fine and thank you.
Just as a point aside the UK radar is only updating every 15 minutes whereas the radar across into Europe is updating every 5 mins. It would be nice if we had the same update in the UK.Alan

@korina
What @alanduckers means is the last "new" image in the loop is sometime more than 20 minutes old. If you move the time slider using the keyboard arrows, it's more obvious.
For instance I got the last "new" image 28 minutes ago and during these 28 minutes there was no image update. You see that both screenshots show exactly the same satellite image.May be you are closer to the servers location, you get more recent updates?
-
@idefix37 Many thanks for that you have put the problem a lot more succinctly than me :-)
-
It's not only related to the UK, I also have that problem. It's been at least more than a week since this happened. The satellite images only update every 15min instead of the usual 5min. They also are low quality/lower resolution now.
You can see how it only updates every 15min in this video I recorded. You can also see the image on the left has a lot more quality than the one on the right.
Here's an image showing the lack of quality on the right image. You can see the right image is not as detailed and is more blurry which wasn't the case some days ago.
This website, kachelmannwetter, also has the same problem, it had images every 5min now only 15min. The 5min images disappeared around the same time as Windy stopped providing 5min images, so probably this isn't specific to Windy.
Here's a link to the website, you can only select 15min images too, but at least the images didn't lose quality like in Windy, they are still sharp even when zoomed in.
https://kachelmannwetter.com/ch/sat/67f8c8c932ff24f5d0d7cce61f29713f/satellit-hd-15min.htmlBecause it also happened on other websites maybe it's not something you can fix?

@guimeixen Hello, EU satellite has an outage till March, this is the reason why imagery has lower quality - https://community.windy.com/topic/15379/eu-satellite-9-5-e-data-outage

@korina Ok, thank you, I was trying to find information about what happened, but didn't find anything.
