Hi. We currently discovered windy for our avalanche forecasting activities in Norway. A very versatile, fast and easy to use tool. And you have a base map that actually shows the location of cities at different scales. There are many features of your solution that are highly appreciated.

We have observed that you take inn data from global as well as regional weather models, depending where one zoomes in on the globe. Is there any chance that you take inn AROME nordic into your solution. The data should be openly available from SMHI in Sweden and met.no here in Norway. The model runs on a 2.5 km grid and reproduces the mountains and fjords much better than ECMWF.

      Here are site to start:
      https://api.met.no
      https://opendata.smhi.se/apidocs/
The model name is MetCoOp Ensemble Prediction System. I did not find an api for this, but there should be open access. Ask SMHI or met.no.

      And for the arctic arome:
      https://www.met.no/en/projects/The-weather-model-AROME-Arctic/about
      https://www.met.no/en/projects/The-weather-model-AROME-Arctic/data_access

Please have a look at this. The scandinavians talk not much, but when they talk, they talk about the weather. You will much applause and plent more users if you integrate the nordic models.

      Regards, Christian

          Hi again

I made an inquiry with my friends at met.no and they sent me the following link to the model data. These are netcdf files. Should be easy for you to implement data from here.

@dr-snow Are you sure about Arome in Scandinavia? We display Arome in France and we are not sure if the model shows good predictions.

@ivo, the Scandic national weather services use the model operationally. So, the model is fully comparable to the other available on Windy.
I, would say go on implementing SMHi/met.no Arome in Windy. 😃

              /Andreas

Hi again. Summer is coming to an end and we are again preparing for the next winter and avalanche season. It would be greatly appreciated if you could consider to show results from Arome Nordic and Arome Arctic in Windy. The modells are the base for the yr.no web site which is operational since years, so there should be no doubt on the quality of the model results. After all, the modern meteorology was founded in Bergen / Norway.... ;-)

                  @ivo I second this.
OP have provided good resources for this model. it's developed and used by the officials in the nordics, and is very reliable.

Looking at the different models in the nordic sea at this exact moment, the models vary a great deal, where i believe the AROME Arctic is the most reliable one.

And the MEPS for the rest of scandinavia also has very good predictions.

As a Norwegian and active premium Windy.com user myself I have been waiting for Windy.com to implement the Arome/MEPS model for Scandinavia for a long time, and I am sure there are more people who is wanting and waiting for this who will never speak their mind here. As others have stated earlier in this thread, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute is using this model for their public short-term forecasts.

There even exist a post-processed MEPS model (MET Nordic) with the highest resolution of any model (1 km space grid) as mentioned in the post above. I would like to see this implemented as well as MEPS and AROME Arctic. Everything can be found in the links provided by other users in this thread.

While we're at it, it would be nice to see the HIRLAM/Harmony models used by DMI (Denmark) and FMI (Finland) at Windy.com as well, as they too have been modernized and have high resolution now. Wetterzentrale is providing them (although in way too low image resolution) and so should Windy.com.

Please make this a priority in 2024!

@kasystad FMI is no longer operating on HIRLAM, they use Harmonie-Arome based MetCoOp -model, same as SMHI and MET, as their mesoscale model.

Having the AROME nordic and arctic models available would be a great help for planning sailing voyages in the north here. Been subed to windy for a good while now, and realy hope they can implement it.

It's free as far as the models go, so it shouldn't be to difficult to get it in the system. For northern Norway Barentswatch.no is the best for wave forcasting by far, not sure if they run on AROME-arctic, but I guess they do.

Please deer windy team - make the arctic great (again?)!

@Laurids Hello, as we would love to make "Arctic great again" and are aware of your requests, we are currently not planning to implement this forecasting model into our system. If anything changes, you will be the first to know. :) Have a nice day, Niki
