How to read Airgram

Temperature
Displayed colors represent temperature in different altitude levels. Temperature values are shown in white figures.
Altitude is expressed as pressure levels
Wind barbs
The length of each barbs indicate the speed of the wind. Long barb stands for 10 knots and short barb for 5 knots.
Wind direction is then indicated by long shaft. Shaft points to the direction from where the wind is blowing.

Thank to you for sharing this kind of information. Additional knowledge for us.

hmmm, thats is good think

Hello,
is it possible to see the altitude displayed as meters above sea level instead of pressure levels? If not, is there a plan to implement this view in the future?Thank you!
-
@rk95
I don’t think this is possible because the weather models outputs are in pressure levels. It is the way how they work, by pressure levels, not by amsl levels. -
@idefix37 it would be great for paragliding to work out what wind speed you have at which height. for example if you know that your take-off is at 1500m above sea level then you need to know what kind of wind speed & from which direction is to be expected at that height & above that height. is there another way how to easily find out this info using Windy?
-
@rk95
In fact, pressure levels can be converted in mean altitudes or flight levels.
Using Sounding you get directly the mean altitude and the wind speed / direction.On desktop right tap on your mouse.
In the app long press on screen.
Then click the altitude scale to get speed and direction of wind.
You can reduce the altitude scale to 7000m max.
Use the time slider to change time stamp. -
@idefix37 that's awesome, thank you very much!

@rk95 hey
i need this kind of information same as you -
Could you explain how to interpret the airgram at different altitude levels?
Thank you -

@idefix37 Hi, just signed up for windy premium. My question has nothing to do with this topic, but I cannot figure out how to start a new thread. I have been using forums for 20 years, and there is usually a new topic button. Can you help, I see you are an admin. Thanks.
-
No, I’m not a administrator of Windy, just a user.
You question is strange because in the menu when you click on Feedback to access the forum, you get the different thread categories of the forum (or may be you need to click on Home). -
@jhonsmithds
Airgram has different meaning in meteorology. -
-
Visualize temperature variations across altitudes with color-coded representations, enhancing data comprehension. White figures indicate temperature values for clarity.
-
@Korina I was following our practice, well, the long bar represents 4m/s and the short bar represents 2m/s.Now I know I misunderstood.Thanks.
