Eruption of La Soufrière volcano in St Vincent island

In Lesser Antilles the recent eruption of La Soufrière volcano has sent huge amount of sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere as shown by the SO2 layer. Wind directions are shown at 500hPa (5500m approx.) and are opposite to the trade winds at this level. This is the reason why the plume is NE oriented and South towards Guyana.

The plume is observed at high level and the INFRA+ Satellite view gives an idea about the altitude of ash and gas emission.
