Windy.com introduces Apple Watch app
-
Windy.com has already more than 8 developers and I, personally, should be just doing CEO job. But I could not resist the temptation. Few month ago, I have learned SwiftUI, and personally programmed Windy.com app for Apple Watch (not bad for being 47y old Internet veteran).
I have put there goodies, that should be on your wrist:
- Compass with forecast wind rose
- METARs, with super handy "notify me on update" button
As soon as we will see some first user feedback @SimonUrbanek (who overtook my iOS programming job) is willing put more functionality to it.
So enjoy Windy.com on Apple Watch and let us know how do you like it.
A note for Android users:
As much as I try hard, I do not know, or see, anyone wearing Android watch. A lot of my friends have some kind of sport tracking (Gramin, Coros etc) smart watch. But not a single Android watch out there. -
@ivo Great, I hope there will be more Apple Watch complications in the future!
-
@ivo Great !! I’ve been expecting this feature for a long time. I’d really like to see two options for the wind display: altitude choice and lock on magnetic north. Thanks ! Can’t wait for the next update :-)
-
That's what I was waiting for. Great job Windy team!!! Really love the widget. Can't wait for additional features.
-
Great!!!! I would appreciate a user guide though (maybe there is one?). It doesn't need to be very advanced.
-
@malinh Thank you, we will prepare one :)
-
A lot of exciting WearOS news on the Google I/O yesterday, hopefully you will change your mind.
-
@ivo I'm a vote for Android watch.
-
@ivo Galaxy Watch Active2 here, love Android phone app.
-
@ivo does it work on all apple watches or just latest version? i have it on my iphone but i cannot add it on the watch so i suppose it is too old? thanks
-
@bavabici Hello, the app should work on all Watches.
-
I think you are living in a bubble. if you create an android app more people will use them (seriously a lot more than tit bits of apple watch users). its just a matter of putting in effort for the right market. Thanks.
-
@vayuputra Hi, thanks for your input. We evaluate the general feedbacks from our users and Apple Watch app was highly requested. But it doesn't mean we will not make an app for Android in the future.
-
Great feature. Three comments:
- Crown scrolls through time too fast
- Now doesn’t display correct values before scrolling first time
- Remember last screen used
Thanks!

Really pleased to see this. Displays wind for where I used to live.
However, moved home this week and the watch continues to display the old location. When I view the new location on the iPhone app, the watch sometimes briefly displays it before reverting to the old location. It seems fixated on the old location.
How is it supposed to choose where to display? iPhone current location? Or location selected in the iPhone app? -
Ah! Think I have found the answer myself. 'The system' does not know my WiFi network has moved. Because I am using the same WiFi gear, it thinks I must be back where it thinks that WiFi system was 🤨

@korina said in Windy.com introduces Apple Watch app:
@bavabici Hello, the app should work on all Watches.
My Apple Watch is a series 1, so the “latest” operating system it can be updated to is 4.3.2 (15U70), whereas the Windy app requires watchOS 7.2 or later.

nice to have it on apple watch
-
@chriz Hello, thank you. What values does it show the first time?
-
I have been in touch with Apple Support who took me through
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network
Reset Location & Privacy
That looks like it has fixed it, and my iPhone now shows my correct new location. Windy on the watch then reasked permission to access my location but still shows the old location. It seems to have cached it once and for all?
