@korina said in Windy 3D mode is back!:
@idefix37 I am using Chrome on Mac.
So it’s very strange. I’ve try with my old Mac OS 10.6.8. Same issue with Clouds layer.

Hi,
It's great! I live on the top of Eire on the edge of the North Atlantic, exposed to East-North-West and I always find it helpful and interesting to take a wader view (it helps to 'see what's coming' ... and I very much like seeing the weather on our sphere: Our Planet EARTH! ... with it's hemispheres in proportion and in balance, comparable, with it's wider and narrower circles that the weather has to move in ... it all makes complete sense! In an unfortunate time when so many other things make much less sense ;-)
I really enjoyed 'EARTH' (earth[dot]nullschool[dot]net - long before Windy was just a gleam in your eye. (I remember years ago when you acknowledged Earth[site] as an inspiration I'm very pleased that you have added this capability to Windy. . It's very good.
btw: I have no problem with cloud view or any other when I use 'Vivaldi' or 'Web' browsers. It all works really nicely. Having said that I use Linux with plenty of grunt, which is an advantage.
Each year 'our' weather is changing and seasonal climatic history becomes less and less useful ... and you (Windy.com) are becoming more and more useful as things change.
Thank you very much Windy! -
hi @idefix37 can you please try without logging in, in an anonymous tab?
-
@kekert
I have tried without logging in, with Chrome and with Safari... same result.
But with Firefox it works ! -
Just amazing! 3D is great; 2D is great; everything is great! I don't know how you guys do it but all your work is very much appreciated!
-
I like it.

yea is cool

What a wonderful app. I nearly became a meteorologist in the Australian Navy. Always interested in the weather. Now I fly the MS Flight Simulator and your app helps with flying in real-time. I haven't seen a weather app as good as this anywhere on the internet. It is my No.1 go-to app for weather. Great job, Windy. Cheers from Sydney, Australia.

@incoming2222 Very pleased to hear this!

It would be nice to be presented reasons for using the 3D mode over the 2D. Instantly the 3D mode felt less useful to me, but it could be because the lack of feature parity.
From this thread I would say the biggest usage would be to properly see the poles.
On another note the "Rain, thunder" layer does not update when "playing" the weather prediction, but this is probably expected. I don't imagine many users will want to use 3D mode except for some specific cases. I would suggest the team to not focus hard on this feature.
-
@lf94 Hello, the layer "Rain,Thunder" does update when the time slider is played.
-
Yeah, this is a great addition and gives an enhanced view on the atmospheric dynamics in play.
-
@lf94 I haven't seen people post this yet - 3D mode is a great educational tool to show how global systems work. It gives a totally different perspective on how non-biological systems work at a planetary level!
-
@korina Nice !
One thing: 3D mode is unusable for me with particule animations - it is much too slow / janky.
I have a ~3y old mack book pro & Chrome 91 & wind animation set to "normal".
It's ok with particule animations off.
Would it possible to auto-disable particule animation when the FPS drops below a reasonable value ?

Guys, I really don't care what you do: you were the only team that provided an accurate and reliable weather forecast for Iceland when I worked there as a drone pilot and I know you will bring up some good stuff! Being a drone pilot is quite challenging there. I made fairly many recommendations at the time, telling the owners of the company (since Windy was my discovery) they were supposed to pay for your brilliance - I guess they still didn't do it, but It's their shame. I'm still using the free version for my private sh##t not making any money out of it (I just got employed again as something else), but if I should ever use your service commercially, you will get a really significant donation proportional to my incomes. Thank you for everything!

Hi have just discovered your great weather site
the 3D addition view is the bomb.![alt text]( image u -
Excellent work! Any plans to allow a continuous, slow spin of the globe?
-
@vicb Hi, that is strange, my Mac is around 5 years old and particles work fine, not glitchy and fairly smooth. Did you try with other browsers too?
-
@flyingrockdoctor It is still work in progress, so we will consider it.
