Windy 3D mode is back!
-
@vicb I agree that on the Mac, the 3D mode with particle animation is too slow (basically unusable). This is with a 2 year old iMac running the latest macOS. If particles are turned off, everything is fine. This is using the Safari browser. Firefox is slightly better but still frustratingly slow..

With the same iMac and same OS, particle animation works fine for me. Both with Safari or Chrome. But there is sometime a glitch when using the play button: the weather map is stuck. That does not happen when clicking on the time line.

Excellent. I don't mind the zoom restrictions for now. I find 3D is most informative viewing wide scale phenomena, e.g. polar centered view of 500 hPa with geopotential height graphics. A great visualization of Rossby waves.

Need more Zoom

It's great mode

@mrandall
Hi, you're right, the 3D mode is really useful on a synoptic scale rather than at higher zoom levels.
I’m dreaming of a new layer of geopotential heights with colour shading and not just as isolines. This really would help to show an overview of the general circulation at extratropical latitudes. -
Any chance to get pressure and temp anomalies at different heights available? Thanks!

Looks great ! I was using IQAir upto now, but looks like their satellite coverage has missing info. I also noticed that their info is behind in time for actual readings at times. Thank you for providing all this info about our planet.

When 3D model showed up, it worked awesome, quick, smooth, no problems. Unfortunately, since some time it stopped working. When I click on 3D I get this black globe with izolines and wait for the map to render, nothing happens 1-2-5 minutes, still nothing.
Then I realized, I can interact with the globe and I have to click on layers to show up. So previously it was remembering the last used layer, now I have to double-click it to get it to work: 3D -> layer.

@michaldybczak Hello, thank you for report. What browser do you use? We will investigate it.

Great option. I like it.

seria melhor se o zoom fosse completo não dá pra aproximar

RE: 3D layer and star field
Wondering if the background star field is correct when you zoom all the way out?
-
Fabulous.

Very glad to have 3D back. Where I live in Alaska, having the ability to rotate the globe helps when tracking storms that potentially bring errant species of birds to the Aleutians over the pole and over Canada and Siberia.
THANKS !

It helps with my sailing so I can check for storms

I really like the 3D globe but do not like the star-moving effect unnecessary and actually a distraction.
-
Very cool!
-
@dongreen Hello, what effect do you mean?

This will be a great addition to Windy. The problem I'm finding right now is it's very slow on desktop for scrolling and moving around. I use the most up to date version of Safari browser.
