Currents layer looks different compared to Windy homepage
-
@propane99 Hello, would you please send us your web link? We will investigate the time of the displayed values.
-
@korina I sent the link via message a few days ago. If you want me to also send an email, let me know.
-
@propane99 Hello, I consulted with our developers and the difference is caused by different time.
On Windy we display data for the current time, but on API the referrence time is constant for several hours. So the screenshot = you're comparing API data from 01:00 with Windy website data from 13:00.
-
@korina is it not possible to have the real time currents in the professional API as the website? Or are we stuck with the non-realtime currents layer?
Also a couple more questions:
- how often is the currents layer being updated in the API?
- how can we know what the current time is in any layer? Timestamp in this case would return the correct time of the layer?
-
@propane99 Hello, the layer in the API is updated once a day and shows data from 01:00 UTC.
Currently we cannot offer the same updates time as on Windy website.

@Korina I hope you mean Trial API and not the Professional version, right? The cost you request is fair enough but not for once per day data refresh. Tell me please how often data is updated in Pro version.
-
@stoyanoff Hello, I meant the Professional version, the update is once a day.

@Korina Well this is not sound serious for 2K euro per year. This meant to be a useful service and not just static data for 24 hrs. Can you check with developers and tell us please, how often the data that paid account receives is updated.
Also can we be more specific for which API we are talking about Point Forecast or Map Forecast
Your live website is really well done. Hopefully your data in paid version of the API is updated more often than once per day. In other case it is just useless.
-
@stoyanoff Hello, Currents are not offered in the Point Forecast API.
I can confirm that currents data in the Map Forecast API are updated once a day, in other words layer shows the same values for 24 hours.
There are slight differences between API and Windy website.

I decided to compare the Currents layer in the Map API with Windy.com to find out how frequent the updates are.
I took screenshots in 15 min intervals of both the Map API and Windy.com one next to the other.
In the Map API, at around 2 am (GMT+2) the last update time changes from "10h ago" to "4h ago" which shows that even after the update and at any time, we are presented with outdated Currents layer.
The 1st screenshot was taken at around 1:37 am, and the 2nd one 15 mins later. (GMT+2)
Furthemore, Windy.com also updates once every 24 hours, but again, when it updates, the data presented are from a few hours ago.
So my questions are actually some clarifications. As we need the Currents layer from Windy, we have to know exactly what data we are being shown.
- When exactly does the Map API update happen? Is it consistently at around 2 am (GMT+2)?
- When the update happens in the Map API, are the data from how many hours before? In the example the Currents layer after the update, had the data from 4h ago. Is that always the case?
- Is Windy.com indeed more frequently updated? What are the exact times they are being updated?
- When Windy.com Currents layer updates, the new data is from the same exact time it was updated, or again from a few hours ago like the Maps API?
As a Pro user for the Windy Map API, the exact frequency and time of updates for each of the layers (in our case Currents is a priority) is something we actually need.
