Weather radar doesn't work
-
@starwatcha Hello, thank you for the feedback. Would you share the API from your local Met service with us?
-
Sure, ( smiling), if I knew what API was. You can see the radar I use at:
https://www.metservice.com/maps-radar/rain/radar?range=300&tab=real-time
Hope that helps

I raised issues about the NZ Radar in the earlier thread titled New Zealand Radar Service.
At the time I posted screenshots comparing the image being displayed by Windy, Rainviewer, and MetService NZ (the Source) which clearly indicated problems with Windy.
Similar problems continue now.
You can find that thread and that post here:
https://community.windy.com/topic/10998/new-zealand-radar-service/20?page=1It would be really great to get this properly resolved please.
THANKS :)

@jmh2002 @starwatcha Hi, we will have a look at it :)
-
Thanks for the reply. I truly hope this can be done as I'd love to go to the premium version for a more complete one stop view of the weather. But right now outta just not justified with such a major feature not performing. So looking forward to the issue being resolved. Thanks!

Just to add some clarity having read the previous posts mentioned above. What I always see is at best one frame in the one hour sequence that shows some detail, then nothing moves and there is just stationary lines where the data was. I also zoomed out to view Australasia and while the NZ remained static all of Australia was doing a great job as seem in NZ Metservice which in my opinionsets the standard. Thanks

@starwatcha Hi, currently we use a reliable radar provider for NZ radar, however if you have a better source with accessible API, we would be glad for suggestion.

Is it correct that Windy uses RainViewer's API?
We have an intense rain system passing at the moment so here's another set of comparison screenshots.
It's also possible to see that the Australian Radar does not have these lines and the unclear / poorly defined image.
Playing the radar shows the NZ radar image becoming properly defined and then going back to these lines again.
Something is definitey not right, and given the other two sources appear to be ok maybe it is some type of problem with the processing of the data on the Windy side?
THANKS for looking into it :)

I'm extremely grateful to @Korina for offering examples of the best fix that make no point of me repeating. He/she clear identifies with this issue, and like mice, if you see one there are probably a hundred more. 🐁
I would question the validity of your claim that you currently use a good source of data for NZ though.
These examples featuring, and as previously mentioned the NZ Metservice radar, work flawlessly, with much finer detail and with none of the Windy issues.
As previously mentioned wider viewing that includes Australian images shows weather systems detailing you'd resolution and movement. So to me the problem is with the data you input for the NZ map portion.
Without going on, if you could replicate the detail seen in the NZ Metservice app, then this problem could be considered resolved. But as it is with low definition, odd horizontal lines and no system progression indicated, the current display significantly lessens the usefulness of the windy site. And this is a real shame, as it clearly has the potential to be the Premier standard for other to aspire to.
Please can I on behalf of all weather watchers in New Zealand, implore you fix this issue and then I'll be more than happy to give you a very big tick. ☑😁

Radar in New Zealand has now showing "No Data" all day.
The original source, MetService NZ, is still working.

@jmh2002 @starwatcha Hello, we will try to bring the NZ radar online back again as soon as we can. Nevertheless, at the moment we cannot offer a different radar source such as Metoffice.

Thank you Korina. Rainviewer is down too.
So I was only mentioning MetService to inform that the problem is not with the real original source.
-
@jmh2002 Yes, the NZ radar should be back online in a while.

@Korina I can confirm that the NZ radar is back online, thank you :)
But unfortunately the Windy radar image quality is still degraded like before.
i've also included a screenshot for Europe from both Windy and RainViewer to make a comparison, and it's possible to see that they are almost the same.
But comparing the NZ screenshots it's clear to see that the Windy image has much less definition.
Can this please be investigated by the development team?
Thank you :)

@jmh2002 Hello, we have already discussed this matter and currently we cannot offer a different radar source.
