Discrepancy in Route Planner

Hi.
Was wondering about the Route Planners Elevation data. In my area (Mid Norway) the elevation can be plus 100m+ off on peaks, even when placing the route waypoints directly on the elevation marking in the map.

What's the tolerance?
Is there a buffer to the sides?
