Unit for vessels
-
I am continually surprised by how many commercial vessels rely on Windy. Coming from the tugboat industry, finding a data spot to get the Windy app to work is difficult. Wish you could come up with a unit for vessels that works along the lines of Navionics or other apps that don't need data to work. I'd think if you had a unit that was satellite or ? something, many boats would purchase it. Its more accurate than NOAA or NWS weather service.

At sea, Navionics don’t need an internet connection because the maps are stored in your device after you download them at harbour. Then you can use this navigation app during months without the need for new data and connection.
A weather app like Windy needs an update 4 times a day and therefore an internet connection. That’s a bit different, so Navionics, or any navigation app, is surely not the solution to use Windy at sea.For short passages (4 to 6 days offshore) the best solution would be for Windy to provide a way to save the forecast for that time frame on your laptop. Then you could rely on it for these 4-6 days at sea but without updates
For longer passages or commercial ships a broadband internet connection, via satellite communication, with Iridium Certus for example, is the solution, and that’s already available. But it’s a very expensive solution.
