      Update: 22nd of July 2021, 12.00 p.m. UTC

Located near latitude 22.6 North 108.3 East, Cempaka is moving west-southwestward at 6 knots (11 km/h).

Maximum sustained winds are near 25 knots (45 km/h).

On a forecast track, Cempaka will move southward over the Gulf of Tonkin. The system might regain some strength but it is not likely to regain the strength of a tropical storm.

Turn towards the east and then passing across the island of Hainan is expected. Unfavorable conditions over the South China Sea will prevent any further development and the system might degenerate into a remnant low on weekend.

      Update: 21st of July 2021, 1.00 a.m. UTC

Cempaka has made landfall in the coastal area of south China's Guangdong Province on Tuesday night. The system continues to weaken as it moves westward, across Guangdong province.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 25 knots (45 km/h).

The system is expected to move southward after it passes the Leizhou Peninsula to the north over the next couple of days. On Friday, Cempaka will emerge over the Gulf of Tonkin and may restrengthen into a tropical storm.
Cempaka will move eastward over the island of Hainan on Sunday and emerge back into the South China Sea on Sunday where it will degenerate into a remnant low.

      Update: 20th of July 2021, 10.30 a.m.

Currently located near latitude 21.4 North, longitude 112.3 South, Cempaka has strengthened into a typhoon, moving towards the northwest at 1 kt (1,9 km/h).

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 kt (130 km/h).

The system is forecasted to make landfall 130 NM west-southwest of Hong Kong. After landfall, the interaction with the terrain will cause Cempaka to begin rapidly weaken.

Typhoon will bring heavy, flooding rains to southeastern portions of the country through much of this week.
