Windy does not show rain
-
The map shows only wind but no rain. It has happened a few times lately.
-
It would be really useful to provide full details (location, timestamp, forecast model and level or weather station, screenshots, etc.) for such a remark.
Otherwise, people who can help could not really help. -
What is there to explain more than the map only shows wind. Rain, temperature, satellite nothing shows. You want me to tell you where I live? what time it was? All forecast models do this.
The answer you gave is just to get the monkey of your back and shows that you have no interest in solving this problem. I will cancel my subscription. -
No, nobody asked you where you live; what I said above was just that screenshots of Windy maps on any locations where you cannot get the wheather info you expect to, could help to understand your request.
And no, I never tried get rid of any monkey; I just tried to help, as your original remark "Windy does not show rain" was not enough clear (at least to me). Windy doesn't show only wind, which is just the default data layer on maps. Users can select one of the several dozens of data layers provided by Windy, including rain and temperature; they are all available on the right side UI controls on the web browser. For the full list of data layers on Windy maps, see this post (which is 5 years old; now there are even more data layers).
Satellite images (which are just one of the dozens of available data layers) cannot provide rain info; they rather get the temperature of clouds, thus they are real time observations of their altitude and dynamics (presence of clouds doesn't does not imply that it rains). You can see rain (if any) on Radar data layer, as well as on corresponding weather forecast models and/or weather stations layers. To prove that "Windy does show rain", one can check these many discussions on this topic...
I hope the reason about cancelling your subscription would be not related to the fact that one Windy user tried to get more info in order to be able to answer your request (thus to help you, without being paid by Windy to do so).

@vsinceac Well, I got a little frustrated. Let me say this: Non of the layers work when this happens. It does not matter where in the world the map is centered. Yesterday it worked again but today is the same story: only wind shows.![alt text]( image url)

Now, with screenshot above (many thanks!), I understand much better your problem.
This is weird, as for me this layer works perfectly at any moment for the same area and map scale (screenshot below - cannot go back in the past at same date/time as on your screenshot). That data layer may be empty at bigger map scale though (i.e. no rain is forecasted).
Maybe your internet access is cut off by moments? Did you tried on other device with different internet access? Do you use the most recent version of Edge? Did you tried on a different web browser, e.g. Chrome?
You could also watch if following type of query returns something - with web browser in debug mode (F12) - when you select some new date/time on the time bar for that layer: https://ims.windy.com/ecmwf-hres/2021/08/03/06/257w3/3/0/rainlogptype2-surface.png?reftime=2021072512.
Otherwise, you should wait for help from Windy support team.

@braafpaard Hello, what device do you use please? I can see it is not desktop but a desktop app?
-
I am using a PC. Also, if I see the wind patterns that should mean that there is nothing wrong with the internet connection.
-
@braafpaard Hello, this is not desktop? Are you using Windy app on a computer?
-
Not sure what you mean. Yes, I am using a computer (I said I am using a PC which is a computer.)
-
@braafpaard Yes, but you are using Windy as an app on the computer?
-
Yes, i have installed the Windy on my computer. How else would I use Windy. Please don't answer that. Also, I am done with this discussion that leads to nowhere. Just in case you are wondering: I use the mouse with my left hand. So you don't have to ask that.

Ouch! I sware I wouldn't want to start World War III, nor falling into the nothingness by answering that (I've already seen plenty of left-handed mice and loved them all :oj)--- I would dare to suggest though that entering the URL "windy.com" on any decent/recent/standard web browser on PC, would be enough to use Windy; no need to install anything else...
-
@braafpaard Hello, I am not able to replicated such issue, therefore I needed to know more details about your device and so.
Do you know what version of the app you have installed?
-
I found a way to make the rain visible. I explain this so other people who might have the same problem can use this.
Open the app. It only shows wind pattern. Click on the time axis. If you don’t click on the time axis this trick will not work. Click on the + button. You now will see the rain. Interestingly if you click on the – button instead of the + button the rain does not show. After clicking on the – button the + button does not do its magic anymore. -
