GPS Error
-
Windy showing my location as London when I am 150 miles due west. GPS set at start up.
Maps shows correct location. -
@bwthyn Hello, have you please allowed Windy to use your location? Here are steps how to improve GPS accuracy https://support.google.com/maps/answer/2839911?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid
-
@korina Yes Windy has access to my GPS location. This used to work and was accurate until a few weeks ago.
-
@bwthyn Please try some of the tips in the link I enclosed. Also what is your Windy and OS version?
-
@korina Hi Korina. Windy 31.1.0 OS Android 9 with all updates installed. GPS accurate with maps flightradar24 earth etc. Thanks
-
@korina Just uninstalled and re installed Windy. Same version and build date, allowed access to location, set to high accuracy, but same result. Shows London as location but am now 200 miles West of there.
-
@Bwthyn Hello, in case your phone does not have access to GPS, it can use IP address instead and causing a wrong location.
For iOS, we recommend to have location services turned on together with option "Precise location".
-
@korina I have the same issue. Windy has access to my phone's location (Android 11) but it shows my location miles from where I am.
Google Maps shows the proper location.
@Bwthyn has also been very clear about his/her phone allowing access to GPS. So there's no help in commenting something related to inaccessible GPS. -
@freekys Hello, I understand it and I am sorry for the inconvenience. As a temporary solution, I would recommend to save your current location as default in Settings.
-
I have the same issue and am also using Android 11 and the most recent version of the windy app. I've checked gps permissions as well
This worked fine until a couple of weeks ago, i think this is a regression in the android app
-
@dmarks Hello, and do you have GPS selected as location option in the app?
-
@korina I have the same issue! Google maps has me where I really am, your app shows me in Borneo I have pics but don't know how to add them here. When I click the pic icon it doesn't do anything! 🙄🤔😖
It is not just this phone, but all my devices so your error I believe!Cheers

Google maps is designed to track people not to guide them, there is no surprise that these maps always determine the correct position as they have another data provider rather than OpenStreetMap. Also, these maps cannot be edited without a special permission from their provider and some maps have unreal places.

@Bwthyn @dmarks @freekys @gilliesails I can also recommend to turn on the Wi-fi and Bluetooth scanning in your phone. Nevertheless, we are currently releasing a new version 33.0.2, you should receive it soon. Let us know if the problem persists.
