Radar data source - Brazil
-
Hi, I’m a Brazilian Air Force pilot and use Windy almost every day. The app is fantastic!
The is only one suggestion to improve data and reliability to radar data.
I strongly recommend using it from Air Force weather service at public API described here. https://ajuda.decea.mil.br/base-de-conhecimento/api-redemet-produtos-radar/
The actually used source Cemaden can’t get everything we need.
Thanks -
A priori that military API requires identification key, then has also some usage limit.
I guess Windy should be able to analyze it. -
@vsinceac the id key may be requested at a link in the article. A simple explanation of what is going to be the product is enough to have green access. The information is already available at the www.redemet.aer.mil.br site, however is a limiter UI and there is no sense to develop a AF dedicated app since we have Windy performing very well in the business.
As the source now in use by Windy (CEMADEN) most of radar data is the same, but poorly maintained. In Brazil we have very good forecasts model from INPE https://www.cptec.inpe.br or INMET https://www.gov.br/agricultura/pt-br/assuntos/inmet in the other hand they lack good radar data. The source to almost every radar imagery is the AF weather service.
So...it's a good way get it from its source. -
@Korina I'd like to ask your assessment over this 'wish'. Is it practicable?
-
@drigobarreto We will have a look at it, thank you.
-
@korina in Brazil the AF weather service is for Military and Civilian. The www.redemet.aer.mil.br is the official weather service for aviation in Brazil, civilian and military. It has an API that is used by a lot of other apps in Google and Apple store.

@drigobarreto Good luck trying to apply for an API_KEY on that site. It will point you to a page in Chinese... that does not exist.
Unfortunately, data from Brazilian Army is not reliable.
