Cyclone Ruby made landfall in New Caledonia

Cyclone Ruby has made a landfall over New Caledonia and brought heavy rains and destructive winds over the islands.
Ruby is currently positioned 135 km of Noumea, tracking south-east across New Caledonia and will move to the far south of Fiji and north of New Zealand.
Heavy rains that are also affecting New Zealand will continue for the next day or two, due to the remnants of TC Ruby.
Severe weather warnings remain active for the part of the North Island and upper South Island. Heavy rain warning is issued for Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne from Tokomaru Bay northwards, Tasman about and west of Motueka, the Tararua Range, Eastern Marlborough and the Canterbury Plains north of Ashburton.

Cyclone Ruby is now an equivalent of category 1 hurricane with position about 500 km of Noumea, New Caledonia, maximum sustainable winds are 120 km/h.
It does not show sign of further intensification, however it is still expected to bring hurricane force winds and heavy rain to affected areas on Tuesday and Wednesday December 14 and 15.
Ruby will first hit the northwest part of the main island Grand Terre by early morning and then spread to Noumea and Loyalty Islands by evening.

Ruby has formed on Sunday afternoon in the Coral Sea and rapidly intensified into Category 2 cyclone. It is forecast to further intensify today and become a Category 3 as it heads towards New Caledonia.
Cyclone is positioned approximately 500 km northwest of New Caledonia's Belep Islands with maximum winds speeds 129 km (70 kt) and gusts 157 km (85 kt).
Ruby will bring heavy rain, storm force winds and high waves and is expected to hit New Caledonia’s northern territory on Monday evening.
