      Good morning,

there's no point in making fussy introductions, so I'll get to the topic at hand, namely there is a so-called hurricane monitor (although it works more like a tropical storm monitor). It's an interesting feature and probably useful for people living in vulnerable areas, but it completely ignores European Windstorms. This is puzzling since they're classified as cyclones. So my idea is to add tracking of them. If there are any contraindications, I would be happy to know them.

      Kind regards!

      Pozdrawiam serdecznie!

You seem surprised because the Hurricane tracker does not monitor the windstorms in Europe. Hurricane is the name of tropical cyclones in Central and North America (and only that). They are named Typhoon in Asia and more generally Tropical Cyclones in other tropical areas. So it is clear that a Hurricane tracker is only monitoring tropical cyclones but not the extra-tropical cyclones.
A tracker of extra-tropical storms could be imagined. But some points make it a little tricky:

        • Tropical cyclones are worldwide monitored by WMO via the RSMCs which name and monitor these phenomenons. There is nothing similar for European windstorms which are monitored by the national weather service of each country. And so Germany name these storms differently than countries on the Atlantic facade. Storm Eunice as example.

        • Tropical cyclones show typically stronger winds near the low center, more exactly around the eye wall. In extra-tropical storms the strongest winds are generally far from the low center, only on one side. So tracking the low would not give an information on the strongest wind area. Storm Franklin as example:

Finally using Wind, Gust and mainly Wind accumulation (which is the max. gusts predicted over a time span) give a good way to track storms.
