New Radioactivity stations
-
Today we are releasing a new set of 5000 stations for environmental radioactivity. The newly added stations show the latest measurements of Ionizing radiation reported across Europe.
Values are reported in the international unit of nanoSieverts per hour (nSv/h). Sievert is a measure of the health effect of low levels of ionizing radiation on the human body.
This effect relates to exposure and dose rates: exposure is the amount of radiation in the area and dose is the amount of that radiation expected to be absorbed by a person. More about Exposure and Dose Rates here.
Radiological data are gathered from The EUropean Radiological Data Exchange Platform (EURDEP), a platform enabling continuous exchange of radiation data by 39 participating countries from their national radiological monitoring networks.
Find out more about radiation via Radiation: Ionizing radiation.
Where to find Radioactivity stations
The Radiation stations are available on desktop only as of now. They are located in the bottom right menu together with other POI stations. Click on "More layers" and select Radiation.
Radiation stations feature will come to the iOS and Android apps within a couple of weeks once the new update is released.

This is a sign of the times........ to come.
WW3 ............... its a possibility or maybe more than.
I like Windy.com -

Really? You want to instill fear in everyone with that headline? This really makes me RE think my subscription.
-
@mravan200 Hello, we certainly do not want to instill fear, the purpose of the new stations is to give a better overview of radioactivity in Europe.
-
@mravan200 WW3bis indeed a possibility, and we need to contain this Ukraine war and nip it in the bud before it ever spreads and turns into a world war. The commenter isn't saying there WILL be a world war; he's only suggesting it to make us aware of the possibility. Make people aware of the possibility NOW so we can PREVENT it.

Perfect! Exactly what i am seeking for, wind + doserate.for my job.
How you have the Eurdep data in your map, cause https://remon.jrc.ec.europa.eu/About/Rad-Data-Exchange do not share the data normaly !!! -
Is it possible to communicate a net link (URL for the kmz/kml) of the doserate stations. I would like to upload it to a googleearth map ?
-
@patrigeon Hello, EURDEP is the data source, all the information can be found at https://remon.jrc.ec.europa.eu/About/Rad-Data-Exchange
-
@weatherfan yeah so this app will prevent it? Nope, it uses headlines to instill fear.
-
@mravan200 Hello, we are surely not in position to prevent it, but what we can do is to provide radioactivity monitoring so the general public has an easy access to such data.

Re: New Radioactivity stations
Curious about the absence of radiation data relating to the UK.
Thanks

Is there a reason why such weird unit were chosen? nSv/h instead of more common μSv/h? Would you add an option to convert one into another for a more familiar look?
Thanks!

@Dmitry-Zujev
nSv (nano Sievert) is a common unit used for radioactivity.
Same as μSv or mSv.
1μSv = 1000 nSv
