First local model for Australia!

We are pleased to launch another local weather model called ACCESS provided by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Australian Community Climate and Earth-System Simulator (ACCESS). Based upon the UK Met Office Unified Model system. ACCESS GS is the global numerical forecast model operated by BoM. It is run four times daily and provides forecast data out to 240 hours with a horizontal resolution of approximately 12 km and 70 vertical levels.

Main attributes:

  • 12 km resolution
  • local model for Australia
  • update intervals 6 - 7 hours

The ACCESS model is accessible both on desktop and in the iOS and Android app, it has 1 hour forecast for the Premium users and is released for the majority of weather layers on Windy.

What layers is ACCESS available for?

ACCESS is available for the following weather layers: Wind, Wind gusts, Wind accumulation, Rain, Thunder, Rain accumulation, New snow, Precip. Type, Temperature, Dew point, Humidity, Clouds, High clouds, Medium clouds, Low clouds, Thermals and Pressure.

Select ACCESS model from the bottom bar on desktop or from the side menu under "Forecast model" in the app.
