Would really really like the option to have wind barbs on the display instead of the animations. Unfortunately there's no plugin for this that I can see.

@davidwg Hello, you can see wind barbs in detailed forecast - Airgram.

@korina Hi; I don't see how to do this -- could you explain how to add wind barbs instead of (or in addition to) the particle animation?

For others following along, wind barbs are a standard meteo chart way to display wind direction and speed: https://www.weather.gov/hfo/windbarbinfo

Oh, I see them in the forecast history window now (with "Airgram"). But I'm hoping to see them overlaid on the map, like a standard weather map.

Wind barbs have not been the choice of Windy developers. Wind barbs are a graphical way to show both wind direction and speed in knots. They were especially useful when weather maps were black printed for specialists (meteorologists, aviators, sailors…).
The choice of Windy app was to visualises weather forecasts for a large audience and most of people want to get the wind speed in kilometres or in miles per hour, but not in knots with wind barbs that means nothing for them, except for the mentioned specialists.
