GeoColor satellite imagery competition - zoom.earth & Ventusky
-
@Gkikas-LGPZ Do you mean this?

-
@anthony10 I strongly agree that Windy should switch to the GeoColor satellite product for visible imagery instead of what they use currently.
-
@mark-ingalls I’ll keep advocating for these changes. I believe both Zoom Earth and Ventusky have nailed the satellite ‘geo colour’ or ‘true colour’ (whichever is the correct term) and also NOAA with their 3D global view, it just needs playback features. Another great feature zoom earth offers is daily am/pm static images.

@anthony10 GeoColor is the name of the parameter in AWIPS, so I assume that's what an API call would require. I'd love the night time microphysics display to be an option too since I live in a region with frequent low stratus and fog but GeoColor is a higher priority for me.
-
@mark-ingalls Also, I'd like to see Water Vapour added to the Satellite layer.

-
@anthony10 On a similar note, I've been pushing for total precipitable water for a few years now. Hopefully someday they'll listen.
-
@mark-ingalls Lets hope if we keep this post at the top of the Feedback and Suggestion page then the dev's will know how much the community wants the satellite layering to expand. :)
-
Another visible layer I think a lot of users would like to see is an Ice/Snow layer. Similar to the Weatherzone website.

@anthony10 Alongside with an Ice/Flood/Fire satellite layer, I believe a Water Vapour layer would be very helpful for users & meteorologists.

I agree they should implement the GeoColor satellite. Would be amazing combined with the windy satellite animation. @Suty can I ask you why you don’t want to add it? I’m sure it’s a feature many users would love to have.
-
@michele7 Even though this post is now over 3 years old, I still hope Windy dev's will add the GeoColor layer and also expand the satellite layers more.
-
Yes, exactly. I believe that a geo-color satellite layer is a must-have feature in any weather app, especially one at Windy’s level. There are so many features in this app, many of which seem of little use to the average user, while more important and truly functional ones, like the geo-color satellite, are left out. I’ll never understand why, and we’re never given an explanation.

@anthony10 @michele7
+1 for Water Vapour - and overall expansion of satellite imagery. And radar come to think of it, velocity would be useful. -
Another feature that would greatly improve Windy is true colour global satellite imagery from sources like NOAA GOES, JMA Himawari-8, and EUMETSAT Meteosat, updated every 10 minutes. It would also be amazing to see HD satellite images produced twice daily from Suomi-NPP and MODIS Aqua/Terra. Adding these functions would really enhance weather forecasting and attract more users to rely on Windy for a complete experience.
