Former tropical storm Blas, the second named storm of the eastern Pacific season, has strengthened into hurricane on Thursday off the southern Mexico, though it is not expected to pose any threat to land.
Hurricane Category 1 currently has maximum sustainable winds of 86 mph (136 km/h), heading to the west-northwest.
Blas is expected to begin weakening towards the end of this week. Even though, it will not make a landfall, it can still bring dangerous surf to the coast.
