      Hello,
I am working in an airline, and I'm thinking about using windy as the source of weather info.
I would like to know if you are able to display/calculate the mean wind along a route ?
OR, would it be possible to get the info through an API and calculate the mean wind on our side ?
In order to do that, do we need a premium version ?
Finally, do you have airline customer using your product ?
      Kind regards,

What do you mean by "mean wind along a route" ?
For long routes in various flight levels "mean wind" has no meaning.
Also, keep in mind that "wind" has two components, direction and speed.

@gkikas-lgpz : Hi, we operate on short routes (15min) until long routes (4h).
You are right to say that we should use the correct forecast of wind on each point (and even at this stage the precision can be discussed but anyway..).
The idea of having a mean wind is to simplify our calculations as would have been done by a human being :

          • between points A and B of a route,
          • you project the wind vector
          • you calculate the total mean wind on the route.
As said, I understand this is not accurate but this could be a way to calculate performances on a route avoiding too many steps (due to the number of grid point)
If you have another way to evaluate the wind along a route I will very appreciate if you share it with me.
Also do you have airlines using your services ?
            Kind regards

@iry-raza Hello, you can use our Route planner - https://www.windy.com/distance, where you can plan routes and see the weather along the way. Another option is our API, more information here.

You can use the flight-planner ( windy.com/plugins/windy-plugin-fp ) to calculate the ground speed for a route. The flight planner calculates the speed at a number of points along a route to determine the average speed and the ETE for a leg.

Draw the route, then click read wx to read all the points and calculate the speed.
