I was told I can see maps/animations like the one in the GIF/video seen here on Windy. Is this true? If so, how?

I expected it to be the Swell map, but that doesn’t seem right? I’m a free user currently, do I need a premium membership to see these?

@agifford Hello, swell maps are available under Waves category - Swell layer.

@korina Thanks, Korina - though I'm not able to recreate it on my side. especially the second image here

I'm only seeing this when I follow the steps you've mentioned, which looks different.

          Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Why do you want to see exactly the same image on Windy? What it brings? Could you explain what this animation shows? Height of waves/swell? Period of waves/swell? Energy of waves/swell? Without further details on the parameters shown, what can we say?

@idefix37 Hi - sure. I'm new to surfing so I may not be completely right, but the image I'm most interested in, the second here, shows the quality of the waves (height of swell generated by the low pressure system) as well as the direction of the swell.

I'd like to use information like this to forecast surf myself instead of relying on surf forecasting websites.

So you find the same information in Windy. You get the overall information of significant height of waves and swell and their direction, on the map and at the location you choose.

To see the animation of the swell height propagation (which is not always the same as the swell direction itself), just use the play button of timeline.

@idefix37 I understand that information is available, I was asking specifically about the animations I linked originally.

My question boils down to: How do I get a view like this on Windy.com? If the answer is "you can't," or "I don't know," that's fine.

I'm not looking for a workaround or similar information.

There is no similar animation in Windy.
