Windy Gets New Lock Screen iOS Widget
-
Update: What to do when you cannot see the widget.
Some users reported, that there is no widget even though the iOS and Windy.com app is up to date. This is because of the bug in iOS 16. The Windy widget will probably appear without any action needed in a matter of days, but if you want to force it to work, we recommend to reinstall the app. It helps in all reported cases.
With the release of iOS16, the Windy.com iOS app gets its widgets for the Lock Screen as one of the new exciting features presented on the last Apple Keynote.
There are 5 types of Windy lock screen widgets, ranging from a simple Day Overview, which gives you the maximum/minimum values for the day, to more detailed ones showing the weather forecast for each day or each hour, just like widgets for the home screen.
Lock Screen widgets are also available in Standard and Premium versions with a 1-hour forecast for Premium and 3-hour forecast for non-Premium users.
Adding the Lock Screen Widgets
To add Windy widgets to your lock screen:
- Long press the screen and tap on Customise button
- Tap on the Plus Sign right below the time to bring up the Widget Gallery
- Scroll down, select Windy and pick your desired widgets to arrange them on the screen.
How to edit widgets
Lock Screen widgets are also editable. Tap on the widget when in "customize" mode to bring up the widget settings.
You can select the current/custom location, forecast model, number of days you want the widget for (up to 5 days), and the background.
You can set the background for each widget, allowing you to improve readability and match the widget with a wallpaper.
New Satellite Premium Widgets
This update also includes a new set of Satellite widgets designed for your Home Screen. Widgets come in four styles: ' Visible, Infra, Infra Plus
and
Blue`.Each Satellite widget is also fully customizable. You can choose a style, location, and zoom level. Wish to see the map without country/city names? You can turn them off too.

@Korina Is this available on all iPhones? I follow this procedure, but am not seeing the Windy widgets available on my iPhone X with iOS 16 w/ Windy installed...
-
@rrr5703 not even on iphone 12 pro max
-
Hello @luigiparisi and @rrr5703 ,
Yes, Lock Screen widgets are available for all iPhones with iOS 16 (iPhone 8 and later).
If you don't see them in the lock screen widget gallery, please make sure we have the current version of Windy 27.2.0 -
@SimonUrbanek
Latest version of app, iPhone 12 mini and no Windy widget available, only widgets for iOS apps -
@Paw-2
Please try restarting your iPhone and reinstall Windy. Sometimes it happens that iOS does not load new widgets right away, it has to index them first (this also happens with classic widgets).May I ask if you see the satellite widgets in the iOS widgets gallery?

@SimonUrbanek
I had to reinstall app, after that I see widgets on lockscreen. But there are no premium sattelite widgets visible in settings. -
Thanks for the quick implementation! Worked after reinstalling the app, widgets look nice!
-
Solved, widgets work after reinstall, sattelite images had to be added via + button not as windy widget.

Doesn’t work for me after installing iOS 16 on my iPhone 11. I can add the app to my home screen but it just keeps telling me that it is not supported and that I should install the app for iOS 14.
That’s a pity as I like Windy and was a Premium member but from now on my go to will be the Met Office app as at least it works on my Lock Screen.EDIT. After a false start installing the ‘other’ Windy app I finally managed to get the app on my Lock Screen by adding a widget, not through the customisation option - which still gives the message above btw.
However, all that gets displayed is a message that I should upgrade to Premium!Back to the Met Office app for my daily weather updates …
-
@errol-1 Now solved - you need to use the '+' option to choose Windy in the apps list and then hold the Windy icon to choose between premium and non-premium options.

@SimonUrbanek Latest version, IOS 16 on iPhone 12 Pro Mac, only widget of IOS
-
who cares about iOS. I want to see this for Android, the most used mobile OS in the world with 70% market share!!!

It is great to see Windy as one of the first to provide widgets for the Lock Screen in iOS. Thank you guys. The information and customization are great. However I would suggest they need improvement in terms of readability. Reducing the amount of information they contain and using bigger and bold fonts might help. Have a look at the Apple Weather widgets. Same goes for the Windy complications for the Apple Watch.

@gmtc Thank you.
Readability was one of our concerns when we saw the real use case. There might be updates in the future including better readability, or another widget with less information.
Good point!
-
wow i like it
-
@David-Polášek-3
With regards to the readability response, and inline with gmtc’s comment, I would love to see selectable round widgets. Such as, one with the wind speed and direction tied to my current location. Hopefully that will be one of the “future updates”. -

Tell your team that they are uneducated people. MACEDONIA is not Skopje. You can refer to this false country as Monkeydonians or North Macedonia which is the one they using now. CHANGE IT NOW

Na próxima atualização do app seria muito bom você. Colosse o app para atualizar duas vezes no dia por que o app atualiza 5:29 e 17:25 seria melhor atualizasse mais no dia por que tem vez que o app erra nas previsões do tempo
-
@Pedro-Lima-2 Hello, widgets and the forecast they show gets updated according to the selected weather model intervals. If you are Premium user, it is more than 2 times a day.
