I sail my boat on Barnegat Bay in New Jersey and I have noticed that the ECMWF model is consistently wrong. Yesterday and today the afternoon winds were coming from the south, or southeast, while the forecast was calling for northeast winds. Similarly today, I was sailing with south by southeast winds while the ECMWF model predicted northeast winds.

I was puzzled by this, since I use the windy app on my phone. It was only when I got to my computer at home that I found the options for different forecast models. I wonder if certain models just work better in different geographic locations?

For what is a man in a storm like this?

These 2 models are interesting because they provide weather forecasts for the overall globe and for the next 10 days. But for daily forecast in New Jersey, I would prefer looking at HRRR or NAM which offer a better resolution.

@idefix37 Thanks, the HRRR definitely corresponds to my experience as well.

@CedarWater But generally.. Windy uses weather models.. They do not provide them. That's important to know.

            Greetings from Tomber
