ICOS Implementation Request
-
hi, after the leakage of methane from the NordStream gas pipelines, it would be interesting to have these data as well. as was done by the Norsk institutt for luftforskning with ICOS data.

Is this open data? This would be the precondition...

@simonepittis74
In addition, ICOS seems to provide local methane content only by measurements at some air quality stations in Europe (Even if they have participated in a special simulation made by the Norwegian Institute on Air Research NILU about the North Stream leakage).

@idefix37 The ICOS network is dense enough to get a reliable picture/video of where the Methane cloud is going ... its a question of seeing possibilties instead of difficulties ... Windy is doing a awesome job ... good programmers ... i'm shure they can bring this into life also ...it is important Methane is one of the most important gases when it comes to climate-influences, extreme-weather , accidents, explosions & wildfires ...etc ...etc ... it is really missing now its much more important then just the regular weather now ;)
Scroll down this page (link below) to see a video (North Stream accident) made of the data from the provider i suggested (ICOS) https://www.nilu.com/2022/09/methane-leaks-from-nord-stream-a-serious-pollution-event/?
...this shows it is doable You could also try copernicus ...etc ..or even combine them. -
@Solar-Cycles
Nothing new, already discussed in this topic
https://community.windy.com/topic/22465/methane-on-map
The same video has been shown in the above topic. Just a simulation by the Norwegian Institute of Air Research NILU based on records from one air quality station of ICOS.
I have shown in the same topic what Copernicus provide as mapping methane emissions. I doubt you are aiming such a map ! -
@idefix37 , I'm aiming at a (as near as possible) realtime (active/moving) map ... which takes into account the winds and anything else that has influence ... best in 3 different heights (layers) ... that would be the only usefull thing ... the data is available so now it is a question of getting the data-feeds and add it to Windy as good as possible (or not)
I'm shure their is (or will be) enough demand for it. In my opinion (and of many scientists) the Methane is the most important issue.
