Updating widget notification remains all the time
-
@Ondřej-Šutera of course :)
-
@MilkoOk I am sorry but what exactly is wrong with these widgets?
-
@Ondřej-Šutera my understanding, and expectation, is that widgets auto refresh on hourly basis.
They're not doing that.
Aside from having a perpetual "Updating widget" notification that never goes away, widget animations will cycle few times than stop at random point in their sequence. They will never restart on their own and I have to manually refresh them multiple times before they will update animations, cycle them few times, randomly stop again so I'm back to manually refreshing... -
@MilkoOk But playing animation and the refresh of widgets are two different things. Widget should be automatically updated on, in general, hourly basis without playing any animation. If you want to play an animation, you can click on play button and stop this animation anytime by clicking on the pause button. Please let me know, if I understand this wrong but it looks like you mixed these two things.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera what is a point of a widget?
I'm giving unrestricted access to battery consumption, precise location and notifications just so I can have a widget that's refreshing information on hourly basis but not showing it unless I physically make almost as many clicks as it would take going through parent app???
Man this used to be simple, functional and visually pleasing.
-
@MilkoOk What exactly do you mean by not showing it, do you mean the animation?
-
@Ondřej-Šutera yes I mean the animation.
1.Radar widget used to update and run continuously. Sometimes it would glitch but it was a single tap on refresh button and problem solved. It even had transparency option so one could opt out of having a giant gray square widget.
2.Now instead of a refresh button there is a menu that opens up settings and refresh buttons. So to refresh there has to be two taps instead of one. Two taps visually do nothing. Perhaps widget gets updated but it's not reflected in animation because you have to press play to activate it. Another tap. Infact, at least two taps are needed on play button to activate animation. First seems to be activating refresh and second activating animation that runs a few cycles and stops.
- is overcomplicated, please go back to 1.
And updating widget notification is still perpetually there.
Thanks for your efforts
-
@Ondřej-Šutera 39.1.5 2023-08-08 fixed it for me. Thank You guys.
I'd also like to use the opportunity and ask that few things be considered for radar and satelite widgets:
- Option to have continuous animation play
- Option to be able to chose the frequency of widget update
- Option to have transparency control for gray background on radar widget
Thanks in advance
-
@MilkoOk Thank you for your update of your situation.
Unfortunately, none of these are planned right now. We used to have the auto animation for certain widgets in the far past, but it was technically difficult to update these widgets.
-
I have 39.1.5 and still have a constant notification of "Updating widget". I don't have any widgets. If I add one, the message goes away. But if I don't, the message appears when the phone starts and doesn't go away.
Same happens whether battery use is set to Unrestricted or Optimised.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera there is no doubt in my mind that one day I'll go kiteboarding and 5km out I'll check high resolution Windy radar widget on my Garmin watch that updated 5 minutes ago, for how far away is that storm cell.
The impossible just takes a little longer!

@krnlg Hi, yes, this issue still persists and we are aware of that. It is also the one of main topics of our colleagues who have been working on the new Android version.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera New to the thread. I constantly am getting the Windy widget update notification. Kind of irritating, but not the end of the world. I am sporting a Pixel 7 Pro with everything updated.
-
@N202SH Yes, we are aware of that and the new version should avoid this.
-
-
I have the same issue, the notification of Updating \widget seems to be permanent, even after rebooting and re installing app. Pixel 7 and Lenovo Tab.
-
I am having this problem after updating apps this morning. I have never used any of the widgets. Moto g power (2022), Android 12
-
@Ondřej-Šutera: version 39.3.2, built 2023-08-29, 12:30 - "updating widget" still permanent, widget empty or never updated, loading circle spinning and spinning and spinning, high battery consumption :-/
(Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra) -
@Mariner1555 Could you please try to remove widgets and app and install it again? Also clearing the cache of the app should help with this issue. We tested many Samsung devices and it should be okay on these.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera: Well, I did what you suggested, deleted cache, deinstalled the app (I also restarted the phone after deinstalling) and installed Windy again. I granted all the permissions, the app and the widgets asked for. - Result: "Updating widgets" and the widgets remain black. Their three dot menu doesn't open, they directly start Windy app instead. Widgets respond to moving , enlarging, deleting etc.
-
@Mariner1555 Okay, do you use any app that could optimize software performance, battery draining or app management?
