@Wrecked @Sad2001Hours @Bedo001 Hello, the idea behind Premium change was to upgrade our subscription and offer more for the great support of our subscribers. We are not a corporation, but a small team of developers and weather enthusiasts based in Prague, Czechia, so there is a big difference.
We moved some of the features under Premium, that we thought our subscribers would appreciate while keeping the majority of Windy features free, such as all the layers (+50), 10 forecast models, Hurricane Tracker, and more.

@Korina
If you think that stealing options from the free users and giving it to subscribers, instead of hard working and adding new great options for premium users is right, I really regret my full support for Windy I was giving since 2017 (Maria hurricane on Caribbean), recommending for sooo many friends..... @Wrecked is right, SHAME on you Windy -
@mankiva I think the word "stealing" is inappropriate and not fair to use here. We are not stealing anything; we are constantly working hard to bring new features, layers, tools, and models into Windy, and we have been doing this for years. It may not seem like it, but building and maintaining a platform like Windy is a lot of work.
With the new update, we added 3 new features to Premium: the Satellite archive for the past 12 months, Compare forecast extended to 10 days and better resolution for weather maps.

@Korina I think @evolab said it right and respectfully.
People are thrown off because we all had this magnificent product that provided a look fairly far into the future...we became dependent on it. Then one morning we log in and now it costs money. Sucks from the free users point of view - so I understand...though it would seem people could be a little better at communicating their frustrations lol -

@evolab I have just done that.

@Vapira We’ve clearly marked the features we’re moving to Premium as “Moving to Premium” to avoid confusion, we haven’t presented them as "new features". We care a lot about the overall user experience, and displaying ads on Windy would harm it and bring more frustration.

@evolab Just as I was considering finally subscribing, Windy decided to move many very important features to Premium. I will be looking for another service as I consider the taking away of features to be quite irritating.
Though it is also true that I find Windy a quite high quality product for what it is. I do understand the decision, however, it would be something I'd avoid if I was at a decision making position.
I may still consider subscribing if, for example, more models are added and/or I can't find an alternative. It's just that I don't enjoy being financially pushed to find an alternative to the previous situation.
With the best of my wishes.

I truly don't understand why Windy would require a premium purchase to view weather products 10 days in advance. Please reevaluate your decision to include with Premium, I will not purchase Premium and will more than likely find an alternative product. Thank you

@strivn4it yes the just fucked up a very good product that gained a lot of support

@Wheats and not all of us in other countries can afford US dollar payments
-
@ChrisLS I hear you, I don't live in the US either and also don't necessarily agree with some of the choices that were made. I was simply stating that people don't have to come here to yell and scream when something changes - they can respectfully share their opinion.

I rely on Windy for marine use. Fully unimpressed with this move. Please bring back the longer history in radar and satellite and 10 day forecast. All of this is available elsewhere, but having it all in one place is beyond useful. I will not pay for premium and will deal with it. There are countless people however that have relied on the removed free items that can not afford yet another pay service. Young sailboarders living out of vans. Indigenous fisherman the world over. People who live in isolated areas by choice on very low budgets. You could have done this better. Not impressed. I must go now so I can waste a bunch of time this afternoon loading yet more links and shortcuts to all of my devices. Have a nice day.

I created an account just to post this.
I'm so terribly disappointed with this decision. Windy was my go-to weather app for years. I used the 6 and 12-hour weather radar time range every morning to see what happened overnight so I could prepare for my day. I watch fronts as they move through my area because my partner has a chronic pain condition that is exacerbated by pressure changes. It goes without saying that I can't do that anymore. At least, not without paying.
I'll take the devs at their word and assume that this isn't just a cash grab. I'll assume that they do want to create and implement new feature for Premium users. Fine. Charge for those new features when they're ready. Cutting features that have been free for years does not reward the Premium users. They have the same functionality they always did. This decision only punishes free users.
The devs say they don't want ads because it ruins the user experience. That's their right to make that call, but I was a user, and I'd rather have an ad than a paywall.
I've seen paywalls like this go up with other apps and sites, and one thing has been the same every time: no one thinks to themselves, "Boy, this site just took something useful away from me. That makes me want to give them money to get it back!"
Sure, you'll pull in some more money, and let's be honest - that's the point. But you've lost a tremendous amount of goodwill, mine included.
I've uninstalled the app and removed the site from my bookmarks. I have to find a new weather app, and I doubt I'll find one as good as Windy used to be.

@Bedo001 Do you have any options for Android users?
-
@Clara-j there aren't many good apps i know of but u can try ventusky or meteoblue for apps and wxcharts or tropicaltidbits for websites u can add to home screen
Windy was the best one but they ruined it now :(
-
@IronTree1881 exactly , they should add the new features, more accurate weather layers, and new weather tech. in premium not take free ones away
I haven't seen a site as good as windy for everyday joes operating of their cell like me
