Dark Sky
-
Windy is the most confusing weather app I’ve seen. How did Dark Sky provide amazingly accurate 10-day RADAR forecasts on their spinable globe and all you have is 12 hours?! That globe was INVALUABLE- not only for those of us who spend a large portion of their days outdoors- but over the years I learned an incredible amount about weather around the planet! I paid for premium- but Windy is no better than the rest of the apps now - all just pulling data off NWS and dressing it up. I’m grieving Dark Sky’s 10-day future RADAR death!
-
@Robert-Shalit
It is not RADAR ! You are talking about rain prediction by weather models not by radar. In Windy select Rain layer if you want 10 days prediction ! -
@idefix37 Dark Sky called it radar - it looked like radar - it wasn’t snowflakes and droplets- and it was 3D, a globe which could easily be spun zoomed etc to anywhere on Earth
-
@rs123
So why did they call "radar" what was simply a "rain forecast" by a weather model? It's just nonsense! This was rain prediction using the colors of their real radar map, ie the one showing rain in the past, nothing more! Don't be fooled just by words and colors.
In Windy, if you were a Premium user, you could see the rain forecast on the 3D globe but with different colors ! -
@idefix37 I am premium - where is this 3D globe? Why do I have to read a manual to do weather - if you never used dark sky before you don’t know what I’m talking about but it was the simplest most elegant weather out there ever was
-
-
Well, have you tried to use dark sky recently because Apple completely shelved it at the end of 2022 and it no longer exists. And yes, I am a premium user. I don’t know what you’re looking for as far as I identify myself it sound like you’re not too familiar with dark sky.

@rs123 and fyi Apple had a billion Dark Sky users because it was the very best 10-day RADAR FORECAST that ever existed. It looks like you're a moderator - so if you are able to contact the coders I'm sure they know all about Dark Sky. And btw I need that 3D globe on my iPhone, not on my laptop. Not sure why you think you know about Dark Sky though as a billion people know Apple killed it on 12/31/22.
-
@Brobert-shalit Again, you are also able to view 10-day forecast on Windy, called Rain,Thunder. Radar is real-time precipitation captured by microwave energy, it is not forecast.
Also, there is no Premium on your account. You probably have 2 accounts, once under the Apple ID email address and this one. Please check.

@Korina very difficult to view Windy 10-day rain/thunder - spoiled by Dark Sky - need to move in and out and around the globe with ease. what part of this do the Windy coders not get?? Of course Dark Sky was not actual RADAR - it was an animation using the same weather data ALL weather apps use - but it was brilliant and instantly and easily accessed - raindrops and snowflakes I don’t need to see - that is much more easily read as a vertical List. And I don’t see “feels like” temperature- ask the Coders - waaaay to many layers and tiny pop-up for precipitation and temps.

@rs123 and why is there not a location icon on the screen I have to go to messy sidebars every time
-
@rs123 I don’t even see an option for a key to the colors and icons. Just a complete mess of layers, color, etc.
-
@rs123 the color band at the bottom doesn’t even have units with the numbers. I can’t even see how much snow is coming each hour without going to some other layer. Incredibly cumbersome.
-
@rs123
if you have premium - you can enable the "rain, thunder" layer and utilize the 3D globe option.
The forecast panel at the bottom definitely has units.
I agree, there's no legend of what the shading around Wind speeds means....but come on, use your brain... white is calm, as you increase wind speed the colours go blue, green, orange, red type of thing.
Have a scroll through this: https://community.windy.com/post/3789 - they have posted quite a lot of information for understanding the different things they provide. Or even just go to the "Frequently Asked Question" section of the forum.
Also, you do have the ability to customize the colours of different layers in settings when using the desktop version. (this doesn't effect the forecast panel though)
In 2D mode, If you have favourites set up, they show up as heart icons on the map....personally I just enable something like the Airports layer and it shows you all the airports as colour coded (VFR/LIFR/IFR) circles.
I hope this information helped in some way!

no idea where this 3D option is on the iPhone app
-
See screenshot- no units:

@rs123
3D globe is available on browser version not in the mobile app.-
Last week I told you the 3D globe is NOT in the mobile app, consequently NOT on your iPhone. At scale of your screenshot what is the point of a 3D globe?
-
Units of rainfall are shown at bottom of your screenshot which shows the Rain layer.
