Cyclone Freddy is just hours before making landfall in Mozambique as a Category 1 storm with 120 km/h wind intensity.
Freddy will make landfall in the northern province of Zambezia, late Friday or possibly Saturday morning. Potential threats are destructive winds, a very dangerous storm surge, and extreme rainfall over large areas.
Heavy rainfall can bring up to 11 inches of rain, triggering flooding.
It is clear that Freddy is now the longest-traveling tropical cyclone ever recorded, starting its journey at the beginning of February, and traveling across the entire southern Indian Ocean.

Freddy has recently intensified into a severe cyclone of category 4. Its path aims towards Madagascar, where it is expected to make landfall tomorrow with powerful winds of 170 km/h, equivalent to a category 2 cyclone. Freddy will be the second storm to strike Madagascar this year after cyclone Cheneso in January 2023.
Cyclone will reach Madagascar on Tuesday evening and then rush toward Mozambique by the end of the week. It will bring heavy rain and turbulent winds with flooding and a severe risk of deadly landslides.
Below is the projected path of the cyclone for the next 24 hours.🌀
